Vanco Hydroboost...

Just checked out their site today and noticed the hydroboost brake setup and I was wondering if anyone was running it. sounds like a great idea, so i just want to know what ya'll's opinions were on this subject....

I run the Vanco big brake kit. It's a tremendous improvement over stock. I think I'd start there before changing out the hydraulics. The TJ system has plenty of pressure, just a lousy caliper and pad design when you add large tires and massive amounts of extra weight to the vehicle.

x2 My Vanco Big Brake kit is awesome. I have the smaller of the kits and I think it has plenty of power to easily stop up to 37's.

I have heard that the hydroboost kit can basically give the pedal an on and off feeling with little in between.

It's not a Jeep but I have a homebuilt Hydroboost setup on my Chevelle and that thing will stop on a dime!
I pieced it together with parts from a chevy astro van and I definately think it is well worth it.
Getting the prop valve/residuals right was kinda tricky.

And NikVallens was right, it is pretty much on/off you need to be very careful about how much pedal you put down or else you might just find out what your steering wheel tastes like.

As Robncar says, the TJ's OE brake line pressure is already more than the OE front disk brakes can handle. You're far better off with VANCO's Big Brake kit that takes advantage of that available pressure without bending/flexing as the OE brakes do which will dramatically improve a TJ's stopping ability that gets reduced with big tires.

Yes, the HB can develop that on and off feeling, but that's easily remedied by dropping the bore size on the master down to the correct size.

I have hydroboost on my TJ, this is what it did to my stock brakes:

First the knuckle slider bent upwards, then the pads folded over. I did this a couple times before Vanco came out with the BBK. I got one of the first sets made, and haven't had a problem since. Like the others have said, get the BBK. It is cheaper, much easier to install and it will resolve your braking deficiencies.

thanks for all the quick replies guys, very much appreciated. I was planning on the big brake conversion already and was just wondering about the performance once supplemented by the hydroboost but it sounds like I won't need it. thanks again...

The BBK is outstanding and only gets more outstanding with the addition of the HB.

i got a 96 s10 on air ride and these set ups off of the old astros are very popular in the mini truck scene. a very cheep swap. only mod you really have to do is sometimes mounting and the plunger might have to be shortened or lengthend.
