We do not have smog checks in Ohio, although I don't think it would be a problem passing a smog test.

Here is a very NICE example of the V-8 power, 18' V-nose full of motorcycles, driven around a 45 miles one way, cruising at 65mph no problem.
Yup! Jeep should have had the v8 as an option. It makes it such a nicer vehicle. I use mine, with 39" tires, to pull a tent trailer. Like you, no issues from WA to Moab and back. 75 mph and 12 mpg. The steepest mountain passes that used to bring it to it's knees in third gear, now it barely shifts out of overdrive. On most, the torque converter doesn't even unlock.

If I ever sell this or buy another one, the first thing I will do to it is do a V8 swap and 1 ton upgrade. Out of everything I've done to mine, those are the best two mods I've done. 1 ton's got me the killer brakes and the V8 swap gave me the power to move it!

1 tons! That is on my wish list for sure. I have built 44's now, but need better brakes. I am thinking of the vanco upgrade, but honestly tired of dumping money into these axles.
Here is a picture of my shifter. I used the end from the jeep tranny that the cable "plugs" onto, and welded it to the GM factory arm. Length is 1 3/4". I kept the factory bracket that actually holds the cable, and fabbed my own brackets to bolt it onto the bellhousing.
Also, I have had a few pms regarding the fuel line adapters from Jegs, here is a picture of that part. It basically just plugs into the factory line, and converts it to an AN fitting.
Another mod I just installed is a Full Traction rear swaybar, and changed out the swaybar ends to a JK setup which used heim joints instead of the factory rubber bushings. As you can see, with using this as my everyday driver, alittle road stability is worth it.

I bought an 07 4-door wrecked a couple of months ago, it is about finished now, and after getting it inspected, I think it will get a hemi, at least a 5.7. I have a local guy who deals in mostly Dodge parts, and can get a low mileage late model 5.7 for cheap. Not sure how much difference between the 6.1 and 5.7, but I've been looking at some superchargers to make up the difference. Also a set of Solid (now spyntech or something) will be going under it.

5 right now.

I have a 98 that I use strickly for offroad, getting ready to sell it to finish my 1 ton 97 I'm building. I also buy and sell/trade stuff, and jeeps seem to do well. I have a 5 year old that wants this gold jeep for his 16th birthday, so it will probably get parked when I finish the 4 door. One reason for the 1 ton rearends on the JK is gears and brakes. As you can see with this jeep, I pull a trailer, and don't want another truck, so why not have a 3/4 ton jeep. I actually just went on a small trip, and had the 98 on a trailer behind this 05. Lots of funny looks with a jeep pulling another jeep (or this enclosed trailer for that matter) and it gets even better when you pass someone on a hill with trailer in tow.

What a great build! What axles did you swap in and what was the donor vehicle for the engine?

I used the factory rear dana 44, upgraded it to 456 gears, arb locker, 35 spline axles, and a rubicon dana 44 frontend built the same way. Motor is from a chevy suburban.

I'll have to get with my 12 year old to see if that can happen, I'm lucky to post pictures without his help.

Actually, I think this jeep may be for sale! I've found another TJ locally for cheap, and an almost new 6.2 6spd auto combo from a Caddy that would be awesome in a jeep. Either that, or I may rob this jeep of it's motor/tranny for the other one and sell it, then put the bigger motor in this jeep. Man, if money wasn't an issue, what fun we could have.
