Is using the stock front bumper on a 2006 tj with a winch a good idea?

I have a 2006 tj Rubicon. I, kind of, like the looks of the stock square bumper, with the soft ends. Can I put a winch plate on this that will work and looks good?
Thoughts please.

No never it will blow up and kill everything!!

In all seriousness yes you can run a winch plate on your stock bumper and there are many that work. Frankly the bumper doesn't even matter it's the frame that the winch plate and winch mount to.

If you add a winch plate that ties into the frame, I don't see a problem. The bumper isn't as strong as some aftermarket bumpers and won't offer as much protection, but as far as the winch goes, should be okay.

Buy a winch plate and mount it.

The winch bolts to the winch plate, which bolts to the frame. The stock bumper has no impact on the strength of the winch attachment. Whether or not it looks good is up to you. Many after market bumpers have an integrated winch plate, which can look cleaner.

FWIF – I’ve stuck with the stock front bumper (and cheap winch plate) because most after market bumpers 1) add significant weight, and 2) protrude about 2” further than stock (reducing your approach angle). The Savvy bumper is the only one I know of that doesn’t have those two problems.

Excellent info, Thanks

Does anyone want to recommend a low profile winch, for this application?
I will be doing light rock crawling, in the Arizona desert, for this season.
