using the skid plate AKA Shovel

ok, here's my deal, i love offroading!!!!!, but my ground clearance sucks right now because i haven't gotten my tires yet (hopfully next week), anyways i went down a pretty nasty trail yesterday and bent my skid plate up, just a littlebit though, and not near the tranny. so whats the best way to bend it back? and paint it!!!

Ship your jeep to me...I don't think your ready!

ok..seriously though - you going to rebend and repaint the underside of your jeep after every trail ride? If it means so much, junk the stock skid and get a tummy tuck (very $$ but worth the trade out!).

I don't know about repainting every time I go out, but once at the beginning of spring, and once in fall at the least. Since I do the 4WD Parts TruckFest I detail my Jeep before the show as well.

The shovel is only half your problem.

I hope you've replaced that oil pan and put a Medic or Skid Row engine skid under there.

And get some farm implements, that vegetation around teh frame looks ready for harvest.

I also had a problem with the "Shovel" getting banged up. I bought a Skid Row engine skid which bolts to the front edge of the transfer case skid. It will help out tremendously!

I did mine pretty good. In order to straighten it, I placed it on the curb, drove up on it with my minivan, and bounced that corner on it until it moved back flat. I had to get back on again after driving off and bend it a bit past flat, because of the flexback. Now I have Medic from right behind the front axle to behind the TC(took 1" BL/MML), and 2.5" more clearance. Now it's 3.5 since I've stuffed 33s in there. Mild rub at full stuff makes me think about an inch or so of BB.

Summary: the best mod was the tummy tuck.

I came close to destroying my whole oil assembly, the poy which spins so the oil is sucked up to the cylinders was about a cm away from being just as a ravaged as the oil pan....as for skids...not there yet...i invested into lift, tires, and recovery...figure i can get away with cautious wheeling...for a while...but on somewhat positve note, all my damage came from on paved roads, never on the trail...and even though it might not seem like it, my rig takes a good beating on the trail....
