using heim joints in custom steering

Is there anything wrong with using heim joints in a custom steering setup for a daily driver?

Some people say its bad but heims were fine on mine for a year and then it wasn't my daily driver anymore. You just have to check to see if they're wearing because they will get loose as they wear out.

Also check local laws. I remember hearing somewhere they some states will fail them for inspection.
