Unlimited Rubicon or Sport Unlimited?

Unlimited Rubicon or Sport Unlimited?

I was leaning toward a Rubicon Unlimited, but they are becoming more difficult to find with all this employee pricing going on. I have been to several dealers in the Denver area and they can't get a 2005 Rubi unlimited. Also, this will be my first Jeep, and the only difference I can really see is axles, and rock trac. I will go wheeling, but nothing extreme at this time so I'm not sure if I would take advantage of those upgrades.. So now I'm thinking of just buying the Unlimited sport and then adding after market products as I see fit. so now I torn, sport unlimited or Rubi Unlimited.

Thanks in advance..

If you know you're never going to use axle lockers then get the standard Unlimited. It's really up to you.. but I'll vote Rubicon Unlimited since you'll end up using the lockers anyway...

Just so you know... the differences are:
Lockers
31" MT/R tires on 16" MOAB wheels
4.11 gearing in a Dana 44 axle.. Dana 44 front
Lower ratio transfer case

The standard Unlimited comes with 30" tires on 15" Ravine wheels... 3.73 gearing in a Dana 44 rear.

its a good trail runner...wouldnt say its a rock crawler

I would say if you dont see doing many mods to it...small lift little bigger tires then I would go rubi, but if you actully plan to crawl it in the future I would go with the sport because the rubi front axle isnt anything I would want under mine with bigger then 35's anyway ( a dana 30 can handle that) and most the rubi stuff would get swapped out over time so it would be a waste of money

I just bought a 05 Rubi c auto and dual hardtops. I really love it but the gas milage is rough..........speaking of rough I think mine had 42psi.....since gas milage is so bad anyway I lowered them to 30psi and is is really a nice ride.....big change fro my F-250.
Good luck

I went with the regular unlimited because I don't do any trails that require lockers and I wanted a limited slip that would do well in the midwest winters. It depends on how you want to build your jeep for your needs.

Keep in mind the rubicon has limited slip when the lockers are not in use.

As an Unlimited owner, if I had to do it again I would go with the Rubi, unless you want to build the ultimate trail rig, it is far more cost effective. Don't want to open the debate on whether or not you can build a better rig, you can. If you get into wheeling (it is a sickness) you could put a 4" lift on it and some 33's, have a great looking rig that will handle most anything. By the time I end up locking and regearing I will be a couple thousand behind what I could have bought a Rubi for. and have it covered by the factory.

I was just out this Saturday on a mild trail and the first thing I noticed about everyone on the obstacles is that traction wins. Lockers are awesome, and they will get you into trouble fast! I love my Rubi Unlimited, and I would not have ever gone sport.
