Unlimited Black Hole

Yesterday I purchased a salvage 2006 LJ from daveysjeeps. This has less than 15k miles. It might make a nice daily driver. I wanted something to work on as I am nearing completion on the 2003 project and have completed two other Jeeps (that I sold) to fund my addiction.

The left front is wasted as well as the TC. The TC is cracked and will be replaced with a 241. Dave (daveysjeep) told me that a lot of Jeeps with front end damage have cracked TCs. The front axle LCA mount and arm needs replacement. Obvious body panels will be installed. New airbags are needed.

Over the course of the month I plan to take this stock LJ and upgrade the drive train. My first thoughts wre just to install Rubi D44s and the TC in and be done. Body work and interior completed.

I'm leaning towards a Clayton Long Arm kit with 35s. We'll see as we get deeper into it. I should receive it here in CA the end of the month.

How much did you pay for that, if you don't mind me asking? I myself have been thinking about going that route for my daughters first jeep. I have plenty of time to do it.(6 years) P.M. me with the cost if you don't mind. Thanks

Paid $7500 plus $850 shipping to California

The LJ arrive last week while I was on vacation so it gave me time to make a list of what I'm going to do.

The big ticket items will be:

The sheet metal (just installed)
Rubi Transfer case (have it)
Axles (4.88s) (have them)
Air bags.

Got the sheet metal on today.

Decided to pull the D30 front axle and swap in the D44 4.88s. I wanted to look at the damage sustained from the original crash and found some interesting things.

Lying on my back, I hit it with a 3lb pounder and it didn't budge. I really don't want to heat it up to bend it back. Once I get it on the rack today to replace the transfer case I'll fix it.

That is the plan! But, for now I need it rolling so I can do the drive train modifications. Since I'm taking the transfer case out I'll probably do an auto swap as well. I already have a 4 speed auto and all of the necessary parts to do it.

Problem is we are doing a Rubicon trip on the 18th and I have to do a bunch of little stuff on the 03 that might require the rack. So, I don't want to get this thing in the air and not finish in a couple of days.

Got the front D44 with 4.88s, 35s and HD steering in. I had to take this shot before I started on the rear.

Today we got a lot of work done on the LJ. Nik Vallens helped me install a 241J Transfer case and the rear D44 with 4.88s. Installed a Full Traction 4" lift until I can get me long arm kit. All that is left is to wire up the compressors and build some bumpers.

Thanks for the kind words! They are appreciated. All of the hard work seems a little easier once it done. Can't wait to do the auto swap and long arm. I'm on the fence between Clayton and Poly Performance. I like the 3 link front with panhard and 4 link triangulated rear. After we get back from the Rubicon I'll start working on the LJ some more.

I got to take those steps off and put some rockers on! I ordered some sniperfab corners ($103.) So we can play a little bit. Mostly, we can tow it behind the motorhome whe we travel.
