Ultimate Front Bumper Design

I've been thinking about making some minor tweaks to my Road Armor bumper and re-powdercoating it after the accident but I think instead I'll start fresh and design my own.

I've got a few ideas in my head - but wanted to get other people's ideas before I run with it.

To steer it in somewhat the right direction though - I'm thinking completely overboard.

Flush mount LED lights
Recessed License Plate mount
Synthetic winch fairlead area
Possible built in storage for recovery gear
Recovery points
Steering box skid

It will all be water-jet cut and then assembled so complex shapes isn't an issue.

I just want other ideas / inspiration before I plan out my design.

Feel free to post pictures of what you've got and things you like about it.

I'm thinking more in the direction of ARB / Road Armor style as opposed to the smaller 2x3" box section bumpers.

What if you made some type of grille gaurd like what the shrock works has or the one like Idaho Jeep has? That'd look mean. If I were to do it all over again i would have gone with that bumper...how are you putting storage compartment in a bumper? I'm intrigued...

You could also consider building an air tank into it for OBA. We did this with my friends bronco.

Back to the topic...

Some inspirational images...

First - what we're starting with:

Jeep has a Highline Body kit raising the fenders upwards, and currently 35 inch tires but I'd like to go bigger. So while I like full width styles, clearance for the tires on full stuff is important.

I like the pre-runner style tube work on the Hanson bumpers.

I like the flush lighting on this one.

And I'll admit I like the utterly pointless but cool looking ribs around the recovery points on the Fab Fours JK bumper.

What if you went with a design such as the hanson bumper, make the front more at an angle, cut the ends shorter to fit the larger tires, and then angled the bars more to keep the grille guard? Not sure if that was clear, but sounded good in my head and I can make a mental picture of it LOL

Are you totally against using steel as the mounting and recovery structure and using aluminum as the shell?

this would probably shed 50 lbs, and there is no need for a big steel bumper unless you herd cattle with it.

Herding cattle is one of the design requirements

And i like where this is going, crawled, and maybe try to incorporate a radiator loop into it.

I vote against having storage in your front bumper. I don't think it would add enough functionality to offset the risk of theft. And unless you made the compartments airtight, your stuff will get sandy and dirty after a while.

I love the ARB Bull Bar but I wish they had recessed lighting. I've also heard that it is vulnerable to bending if hit in the middle under the winch opening.

Base your design on the Bull Bar, add recessed lighting and beef up the weak points.

This is sort of like the hansen style but it is short enough to allow for full stuff of the tires. pop a few holes in it for flush lighting, maybe drop the winch deck a bit to give the winch a more concealed look and boom your done. I'll be watching this thread, if it turns out anything like your dash bezel plans you may have some orders to fill. (btw how did that turn out anyway?)

Edit: First attempt pic fail
