Turning off the check engine light

I posted earlier about how to turn off the CEL due to my having removed the cat and got a great response from redrock4x4

,but unfortunately the thread has been closed. But I was wondering if there was just a simple way to make that little light go out? Is there a bulb or something I can remove? Thanks in advance guys. Please no more Green Peace fanatics.

Replace the catalytic converter and the light will go out. It's as simple as that.

Other than doing the repair that is necessary, you can disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes...I believe that will turn off the C.E. light...

OK

You can get the code canceled but the problem will persist...so the light will reappear. You should mount a "CAT" and drill a hole in the pipe "near the CAT" :wink:

The weld a nut and put your O2 there. kk

a) it was closed for a reason
b) how hard can it be to pull apart your dash cluster and pull that bulb? you had to post to ask about something illegal AGAIN?

on one of my other vehilcles I bought a connector that plugged into the harness and "fooled" the computer into thinking the cats are there and are working properly
you may search online or ebay for this

It's only illegal if you drive it on the road. Since Jeeps are off road capable, I see no definite crime being committed.

Not to condone illegal activites and all, but I'm guessing you guys have never recorded a show on tv? or downloaded a song, or movie, or copied a cd or DVD?

Okay, there ya go. It's not a huge deal, every car isnt driving around without a cat. If he wants to take the chance let him. No cop is gonna pull him over and be like "I noticed you didnt have a cat on there buddy."

It's just one more restricion the govt. puts on our lives.

No doubt its illegal to remove or tamper with a cat.

But I wonder what the legal implications are after the fact it has been removed?

For example, is there anything that prohibits driving a vehicle that has had the cat removed?

That Clean Air fact sheet link above also states its illegal for an exhaust shop to put dual exhaust on anything that had single exhaust when it left the factory. So is it illegal if you're caught driving a vehicle equipped as such, or is it only illegal for the exhaust shop to do the work? It seems like if it were illegal to drive like this the cops could pull over full-size trucks all day long.

Idiots like you are the reason why we have such horrible pollution on this planet. I'm as far from a green tree hugging hippy as you can get but if you think the government laws that require you to have a cat on your exhaust system are for no reason you're crazy.

This isn't an issue with someone breaking the law; I couldn't give a damn less if you break the law or not... it's the result of you breaking the law that is the issue. Copy DVDs and CDs until you're blue in the face, I don't really care because that doesn't contaminate the air we breathe.
