turn the steering wheel all the way and hear a loud squeaking noise
so the problem i am having is when i fully turn my steering wheel and lock it out it is making this loud squeaking noise. none of the other jeeps i have ever had have ever made this noise. the noise starts when the wheel is turned about half way. it is driving me nuts. what can it be?

I had this happen on a previous vehicle, it was low PS fluid. thats where i would start.

power steering pump

could be the belt as well. I always try not to hold my wheel hard over like that. What you are likely hearing is the result of the pumps high pressure relief valve opening. Making the pump need more power that the loose belt can't provide, and it slips, or the pump whine/squeal because it is starving for fluid or damaged. Holding it hard over to lock keeps that valve open and creates extra heat in the fluid and valve, makes the pump work harder and generally creates extra wear on the system. Dunno maybe thats just me being "finnish" or OCD but I like to turn it till I hear or feel it lock then back just a bit to keep the system happier. That extra strain in my opinion is unlikely to make the jeep turn any tighter.
Check your belt, fluid quality and quantity could need a new belt or a new pump or just have a leak.
best of luck

so i just went and checked my power steering fluid and its clean and full. i try not to turn the wheel much so i don't have to listen to the noise. but the problem is where i live i have to make a u turn at least once a day. what else could it be.
