Tuffy Underseat Storage Drawer Pics (dialup warning 400K of pics)
Well, I certainly hope I don't get flamed because this isn't "tech" - but I had searched the forums when I was deciding to buy the underseat drawer, and saw many people discuss it, but not a lot of pics as to what it looked like.
So, I took some pics today with the new camera and downsized them for you all (and the archives). Overall I really like it, and with the 2 kids (11 and 13) they still fit comfortably back there. A couple of things you might not think about if you are considering this upgrade. 1) The seat is raised more then the 3" claimed. Its closer to 4". My 5' tall 13 year old daughter can still look out the front under the rollbar - but by next year, she may be ducking. 2) The drawer is constructed well - follow the directions as the order of the bolts when installed does matter (some bolt studs get in the way of the wrench if you do them first). 3) because the seat is raised, rear leg room is worse since passenger knees are higher up where the front seat back is leaning backward further. On the plus side, you have more behind the seat room since the "leaning" part of the backseat is higher. 4) Even though the seat is 4" higher, you don't have a 4" drawer. The drawer allows clearance over those riveted hooks and such on the floor, so you dont have to remove them. But, some items (like my "onboard air" - a 12v compressor ) don't fit. Its about big enough for my tow strap to fit on its side.5) Stuff moves around while driving - use one of those rubbery shelf liners to help. 6) When stuff moves around, it can get in the way of the latch. I find myself contantly reaching in the drawer to move stuff around just to get the drawer open. Its a PIA. SOme sort of divider should be included. It might lose a little space, but allow free movement of the drawer. When I make something up, Ill post a how-to. 7) My rig is stock, with stock carpeting. I cannot remove my rear carpet without unbolting the box and removing it now. Those of you that Herculined your tub won't care. I wanted to keep the carpet it, and now I am kinda stuck unless I cut the carpet or remove the box for cleaning or drying out. 8) I probably should have bought the full-length one, but as you can see, I get most of my items in there. But, I am not a hardcore offroader (yet) and my rig is stock. I tried to show the box as best I could - hope it helps someone! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
