Tuff's Jeep Build

I figure its time to actually make my build thread...

I bought this '00 TJ back in November '08. The dealer bought it on auction @ www.klode.com you can buy totaled or clean titled vehicles from auction. This Jeep is clean titled and came from Aurora, CO. I stole this rig as it had 43,000 on the clock and had it in the driveway for a little less $5,500.

I did buy it wrecked, it had the front smashed fender, and hood. Along with that was a bent lower control arm, tie rod & drag link, lower control arm bracket on the axle, snapped shocks, and broken fender, all of which was replaced by me. I installed the new fender etc but left the hood straightening and painting to the professionals.

Here is what it looked like when I bought it.

Replacing the front fender...

I used take-offs from the local Teraflex Plus shop to replace most of the parts.

Once getting it home from the purchase, I went on to install a Superlift 4" won at EJS 2008.

Here is the finished product. I drove it around for about a month on 31's and realized that they didn't quite look "at home" so I went out on a whim one day and slapped on 33" KM2's.

Skip ahead about 10 months. I got tired of making car payments, and found a 99 Cherokee and bought it. The plan was to sell the TJ and drive the XJ. Well the TJ had lookers but no buyers, good thing. When I bought the XJ it had worn out 31's. So what I did was I put the KM2's on the XJ, and got used 33's and slapped them on the TJ...

It looks gross IMO without any sidewall lugs... Anyways nobody bought it, so I switched the tires back. I did have a problem though, the offset of the Aluminum wheels was different that the steel mocklocks. The aluminum wheels put the tires inside the flares and made it look like it had elephant ears, so the Local Big-O Tire store swapped them for a set of 33" Yokohama's on chrome wheels that I had sitting around.

You wont see any of this stuff, but after deciding to keep it, I decided that the Superlift shocks weren't cutting it so I bought Teraflex VSS 9550 Shocks. Love them. They provide a stock-like ride.

I then went on to getting some drivetrain parts. Got Yukon 4.88's and a Detroit Locker for the Dana 30 from alljeep.com. I bought a Superior Super 35 kit and Detroit Locker from 4ws.com. I had a local shop install everything for $500 labor. I did have to buy master install kits and a seal for the front end that was leaking.

I love having lockers, even in the snow, if you treat it for what it is (an auto locked TJ) it does fine. The reactions are priceless when people find out that I am running a Detroit up front.

The maiden voyage in the locked TJ...

I remember that climb in the first video- only last time I saw it you were not locked yet. ;)
If I owned a TJ- yours is basically what I'd want.

Keep up the good work!
