Tube Fender Build

Getting everything ready to install front tube fenders on my 04 LJ. Hope to have the project done late November, but want to get a headstart on moving/moding the engine bay so it's not so big a project. I'll update the thread as each thing is done, providing a write up on things that have not already been covered too much.

I'm running 35s with a 3" BDS and a 1" BL. I like the stance, but have had some issues with rubbing. Plus, I really like the way they look. I'm pretty set on the TNT w/ 3" flairs unless anyone has suggestions for full fender replacements (nothing that requires the use or modification of the inner fender well).

Here's a current photo from Jeeptoberfest in Ocala, FL for reference.

So, here's the first thing I did this weekend.

Step one: Replacing factory air box.

I won't do a write up on this since there's a ton of threads out there for it. I went the Buick route since there's so much info out there about how worthless K&Ns and such are. The CAI FAQ was invaluable and made the whole thing painless. I picked up the air box at a pick and pull for $10 bucks and the adapter and bracket steel at Home Depot for $12. Had hardware laying around the garage for a total install cost of $22. Took about an hour and a half to actually get everything cut and installed.

There's no way I would have been able to do it that fast without the guys who did the Hummer-style write ups. Thanks guys.

I haven't decided if I want to go ahead and do the Hummer-style through the top of the cowl or just run the duct through the cowl grabbing air from the top vent. Mayme a hood scopp to get more air in. Any thoughts?

Buick intake:

Next up, I am going to relocate the washer fluid bottle to the back, buy my new battery (Yellow Top) and order my fenders.

do you plan on cutting your factory fenders or selling them.

Personally, if I were building a set of tube fenders and the factory fenders were in good shape I would sell them to pay for the others.
