TSB for 2.4L serp belt???
I've had a squeak develop over the last couple of days, I only hear it while moving and with load on the drive line such as while cruising or accelerating, not while coasting... I took the Jeep to the dealer today expecting something in the front drive shaft a-la "angry sparrows", but they said there is a TSB about replacing the belt and re-routing it. Has anyone gone through this and did the dealer fix work? I'm having the work done later in the week, but I strongly expect I'll be going back soon for the same squeak. Any thoughts are appeciated.

It's pro. the belt, i'm pretty sure that will fix it. Maybe some water or something got into it... or the pully's are alittle off.

Belt?

I would think that there aren't a lot of options for re-routing the belt though unless it was somehow installed wrong at the factory. Thanks.

Supposedly they remove the idler in the center of the block and replace the existing belt with a shorter one. The guy said they'd already done it to another one but I thought for sure I would have read about it happening on here... it doesn't seem all that common a problem. It's kind of a surprise because I only have about 6000Km on it.

No I don't
this might explain it more; http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Chrysler/1139990400000_1140768000000_07-001-06/71.html but, unlike in their description, I noticed it while driving, and in low ambient temperatures.

Good Info

We now have two replacement belt options. You'll notice, however, that the original belt routings insured that the drive belt made at least 180 degree contact on all pulleys. I guess this was to insure a positive drive, especially under load. The new routing (TSB #07-001-06) leaves the alternator and power steering pump with less than 180 degree belt engagement. I don't know if this is a potential problem. Thanks.

I'd just like to bump this back for a bit. I can't believe I'm the only person that's had this problem since there's actually a TSB out addressing the issue...

You're not alone. I have a 2006 with the 2.4l and have the same problem. The dealer had to order the new belt. I am waiting for it to come in now. In fact, this reminds me to call them. Thanks

My 03 SE had this problem for about the first 6 months after I puchased it. I had brought it to the dealer atleast 6 times. They dressed the belt twice then ended up replacing the belt later. After some more time they replaced the tensioning pulley and it went away. I havent had any problems since then but I did see the TSB out for it. If it starts up again I'll just get the new belt and take out the pulley as per the TSB since my warranty is now done.

Just back from the dealer and everything's cool. they swapped out the belt and removed the center idler and my squeak is finally gone. If anyone else gets a mysterious squeak from a 2.4, the serpentine belt is the problem. The TSb adresses the problem perfectly.
