trouble removing oem steering stabilizer
I cant for the life of me get the damn studd for the steering stabilizer out of the drag link. Anyone have a special trick or a tool that I might be over looking to get this off. I need to save whats left of my knuckles!

Mine came off with a little tap but I've used a GP puller before. Theres a specific tool listed in the FSM: C-3498-A

It's a tapered fit that if you'll give it a few strong whacks on the SIDE where the stud passes through with a small smooth-faced sledgehammer, it will pop out.

There is a tool that works great for this, its called a two-jar puller, i used one just alittle while ago when i replaced my steering stabilizer, here is a link of what it looks like, and i think that you can rent it from places such as AutoZone

i just replaced mine a couple weeks ago. i tried a pitman arm puller, but it kept slipping off. so i went to Advance Auto and "borrowed" a smaller puller, i think its a tierod puller. i worked perfectly and came right off in a matter of minutes.
but when it popped off, it scared the crap out of me. very loud bang, mines a 98 and it was the factory stabilizer, it was in there good!

LOL I was wrenchin' at a fellow Jeeper's house trying to swap out my SS, the factory '97 SS assembly would not come out for the life of us. We tried all that stuff ^^^, torched it for a minute, knocked the **** out of it, it would not budge.
So, luckily, a guy in my club had a spare drag link, and we just swapped the whole damn thing out. THEN when we went to take the TRE's out of my old TR to put into my new BDO HD tie rod, they wouldn't come out either! There's a chance we were screwing them the wrong way though... So now I got an '05 DL, a BDO HD tie rod and new TRE's, and a new RE SS. I feel good with my steering componenets now, lol.

If you would have gone to autozone and rented (pay 15 but get it back when you return tool) a pitman arm puller, it would have been out in about 2 minutes. Keep that in mind for next time.
