Transfer Case Problems

Is it possible for the shift fork on a np231 to come out of alignment??? My buddy's 99 TJ is making a clicking noise from the transfer case in 2wd when he is slowing down to a stop. He says it isnt doing it in 4wd hi. So to me it sounds like its not fully dis-engaging from 4wd Hi into 2wd Hi. We recently put an SYE on it but it just now started making the noise.

Any opinions?????? or Solutions????

Sounds like the shifter linkage isn't adjusted right.

Have someone work the t-case lever from up top while you watch how the shift linkage works from down below. You'll quickly see how it works and how to adjust it, it's pretty simple.

I think he meant the linkage to the tcase from the shifter... it's called the trunion. Pull it all the way back inside the jeep, put the tcase itself in 4 low. Tighten the trunion to a 90 degree angle. Shift back to 2wd and make sure it's smooth.
