transfer case problem???

I think i might have a problem with my transfer case. i have a 2000 jeep tj with 4inch rough country lift and when you push the transfer case selector all the way down in 2wd you feel like a grinding. also when i hit a pot hole or a bump in the road you feel the same grind. I noticed that if you just pull up slightly on the selector that the grinding will go away. i think it might need adjusting but how do i know exactly how much to adjust it. please help

i found that the noise i thought was a grind turn out to be a dry gromet the held the transfercase shifter to the body that was giving me the sound and feel of a grind. they lubed it up at the car shop and it seems to be gone. hope this helps any one with the same problem
