Transfer Case Leak

it looks like the t case is 2 pieces (the housing). it looks like its leaking from where the 2 pieces meet. it looks the same way in the rear of the tcase. can you tell me what i need to replace to get it to stop? its not leaking from either of the shafts. it looks like its at the bottom of the tcase.

thanks

If it's just the seal leaking, it's not too bad. Pull the rear drive shaft out, drain the fluid, unbolt the case half, remove the back half of the case, clean both mating surfaces, RTV the front half, slide the rear half back on, bolt to spec, put the DS back on, fill with fluid.

how do i know if its just the seal? the big piece that the shaft goes into, that bolts to the face of the tcase, has fluid at the bottom of it.

If it was leaking from the output shaft you would probably be seeing ATF being slung around the underside of your Jeep. Making a new seal for the transfer case is not to difficult with the right tools. It shouldn't take more than a few hours. When you split the two halve just remember to keep the bolts in the same order you remove them in. You will notice that they are different lengths and they need to go back in the correct place.
