Tow Package...

I was passing by a dealer earlier today and saw a nice 2003 tj on the lot. I couldnt stop since i had school but i got the number and called the dealer... he didnt know much about the jeep just that it had a "trial rated" emblem .. and had the towing package. It had a pretty good price on it, so my question is.. What really comes with a tow package? i was hoping tow package = d44 as well? Thanks

I think 'tow package' = D44 with 3.73s and a 2" receiver on the back.

There is no "tow package." Never was.
So, it's whatever the dealer installed, maybe just a hitch, maybe wiring pigtail, with an auto maybe (big maybe) a trans cooler.

no tow package that ive ever heard of, just tow weight rating on each model level.

Short wheel based TJ's were never meant to tow much at all. any good amount of weight on a trailer (with or without brake assist) would throw the TJ around like a fart in a windstorm.

I thought the tow package was basicly an aftermarket 2" reciever the dealer installed on the back, but they only did it on D44 models with 3.73s. Its not an official thing from the factory.

I'm guessing that the individual dealers just tossed a hitch and wiring on whatever TJ they felt like it and called it a tow package. Mopar never officially offered one that I know of.

and I wouldn't bet that the dealer even knows the difference between the D44 and the gear ratios either.
