I had the same problem when I removed my front shocks. When you turn the nut, the stock stem rotates thereby preventing the nut from loosening.

I was able to get vice grips on the shock stem and this prevented the stem from rotating allowing me to remove the nut. The passenger side was more difficult. I had to cut the rubber bushing and remove it before I was able to have enough clearance to clamp the stem. The fuse box is on this side so you can not use the hole in the fender for a socket extension to loosen the nut from the top.

On the driver's side, I used a pneumatic air wench with socket extension so the job was easier on that side.

mine were bad off, i tried vise grips but finally had to grind 2 flat spots on the strut to prevent it from turning, on the passenger side i had to remove the air box to gain access to the hole so i could use extensions and a ratchet

cut the plastic off from around the top half of the shock if that's not already done....vise grips or anything else you can think of from there

yea, i think a grinder or a dremel or something is about where you're at now....some others have said cut the strut and pull it up through the frame mount like that not sure how easy or hard that is though

i had to use Channel locks and sqeeze the Snot out of the stem, then use a open end wrench to get the nut to loosen...once it goes it doesn't take much, just that intitial turn.

ps....if you're having problems with the top front...i would soak the piss out of the top Rear for like two or three days....the only parts on my jeep that i didn't hit with PB blaster and i snapped three of the four bolts, then had to spend twelve hours drilling them out with various size drill bits....Sucked Balls
