That's another option. Would need the double bends - not sure if it would be lowered enough that all the bend would be removed ready for fresh new ones.

Although I honestly think at that point you might as well start with some straight tube and build from scratch.

The Olympic lightbar looks horrible in comparison to the Mopar one. I'm sorry, that's just the way I feel. The dealers out here have started putting them on what they call the Rubicon Raider package - trying to imitate the Tomb Raider movie Jeep (wow I'm staying on topic ) and why they didn't use the Mopar one I don't know.

I've seen quite a few of them and no matter what else the Jeep has on it, I hate them.

The snorkel hides it on the near side on my friend's rig, but on the opposite side you can see the two things I hate most. 1. is the "plate" that goes up against the windscreen. There's no bolts in the top part of that so the only thing I can see them doing is scratching the paint away.

The second thing is that the seam and screw holding them together are easily seen from a long way away. It just looks cheap and simply built. Where as on the other hand the Mopar bar has a different kind of simplicity that gives it a clean look.

I also think spraying the lightbar body colour made a huge difference.

Appearance does matter to me. Once I decided I wanted the lights overhead, I wanted the best looking solution to get it done. Function First doesn't mean you forget Form

Hey how about going with a light bar from "Carr". Its called a rotobar. Its pretty low profile and it comes in black. As far as the lights I think the Hella FF75's look as close to the Tomb raider ones as you'll get. Thats the way I'm going. I'll post pics as soon as I have it completed.

Sorry to get off topic... the Warn front bumper on the gold tomb raider jeep looks like the YJ model, not the TJ (the grille guard is wider and bolts to the bumper, not the winch plate). Does anyone know if this is true... i.e. would the YJ bumper fit on my TJ? I want to have the bumper and grille guard without having to buy the winch plate.

I personally think that the hummer next to the jeep detracts from the value of the jeep.

I think if you can find a PIAA dealer you will find these lights. I know PIAA sponsored some of the upgrades on this jeep. When the movie came out there was a 1/2 hour show just about this jeep on descovery or tnn . The light bar and roll bar are custom made. If you look at the skid plate there are 4 piaa round lights in that too.

There was a thread about this the other day. I pulled my Jeep on the ramps and started working out how you would build something like that.
I think it is just for looks and have no purpose at all. A skid like that will be functional on an independent front suspension set up because you have a stationary point of mounting it at the bottom. Not so with the live axle set up. So you would have to attach the top to the bumper and fab a superstructure on either side that will be weak. Or use thick plate. The problem is it is only fastened on top at the bumper so there will be no strength.
My opinion, what do you think?

I think one the skid is on there you will never go off road again in worries of it falling off or damaging it. but if someone is just out for looks it is a great iidea. I look in to making one my self and saw the same thing. Forget! If it is there i want it to work!

One question Oman – How do you get your Jeep in the garage?

I am planning 33’s later when I’ve geared etc. But I discovered that my Jeep would just be able to enter my garage. But I do have to move my garage door up a bit – this is quite a task as it is automated.

I have seen that one a lot on Bronco's and they all have rust around the mounting points and hinges. They seem to have rust problems.

I think the one from Top Five looks the best.

They the lightbar separate:

I like their design and it looks like it would be less noisy in the wind. Lightbars are too eightees for me though. I do want to buy a Top Five rack one day though.

The same guy owns both of them I just chose the pic that was a close-up of the TJ. The TJ is on 35's and the H2 is on 40's.

It's definitely for a TJ. There's no extra effort involved in making it fit. The Warn items on the Jeep except for the winch are part of the dealer promo package that gets you the "Rubicon Raider" sticker out here. Warn front / rear bumpers, Warn grill guard, Warn spotlights everywhere, Olympic Lightbar, reversabar side steps and some dress-up diamond plate protection here and there.

As far as I can tell, if you want that front bar, it should be Quadratec part number 12022 422 07

I would probably have them find a smaller tube to insert and weld up, then slot the chopped top on that and secure it and then have it ground smooth at the seam then painted again. I like the fact that the Mopar bar is one piece - I hate seeing the join on lightbars like the Olympic Lightbar etc...

Yes, I'm extremely fussy

That's why I said a good fab shop. And I do agree that Mopar's one piece design is one of th nicest looking ones out there.

The one thing I don't like about Warn's winch guard for the TJ is that you have to have the winch plate in order to use it. I'm not sure if the YJ bar will bolt up to theTJ bumper. I thought I read something about using a stock TJ bumper on a YJ, but I think it may have been the rear bumper they were talking about. Depending on how the YJ bar lined up in relation to the frame rails, you could probably just drill a couple of holes into the Warn bumper and bolt it on. The bumper is 3/16" thick, so it should hold up.

I don't

I only have a car port which is good because there's plenty of space to get around the Jeep - bad because there's nowhere secure to leave the Jeep parts lol. Over the summer, I had a hard-top in the garden, and some full doors and a stock hood in the spare room in the house

There's plenty of clearance to go higher for me. If I put Mattracks on, my lights would hit the car port I think, they would net me another 12" of lift or so, I forget. I think I have 6" clearance at the moment.

When I go with the garvin rack though, the lights will be lower so that the tops are level with the top of the rack. The long term goal is AiRock and I could drop that to the bump stops if I ever needed to.

But yeah - It's fine on our car-port - my friend's place - underground car-parks out there and so on. The car-parks in england though I wouldn't have a chance with. So it definitely depends on where you are. The only trouble I've had is low hanging branches over roads, but I just completely slow down to brush through them, or if there's no traffic, swing round them, and the occasional low car port. There was one place where I just backed it in until the lights were about 2" away from the edge of the roof, and another time I just didn't think and almost ripped the whole lot off but thankfully stopped in time

So, does that grille guard bolt to the bumper or the winch plate? The grille guards I've seen for a TJ seem much narrower than the YJ one (the one in the Quadratec picture).
