TJ year by year option list
I have posted the below info in the buying section of this forum but that side doesn't seem to get as much traffic as this side does. I was wondering if anyone had a link or any info to year by year option list per model range for the TJ?
__________________________________________________ ______________ Seeing as how google is no help I figured I would come on here and ask. I use to own a 99 sahara. And am now in the market to get back into wheeling. Ideally I'm looking for a TJ not the new JK. I know in 03 we got the revised transmission which is apparently better? Has anyone had the old 3spd auto and can speak on how much better the new 4spd auto is? And yes I am looking for an auto. Ideally what I'd like is: -abs (I know hard to find) -03-06 model year -6cyl -auto -locking fuel cap (another hard to find) -Dana 44rear 3.73 gear ratio -not a rubicon (as they never came outfitted with abs from the factory) -painted fender flares just like sahara (i know the rocky mountain edition came painted like sahara but sentry theft immobilizer wasn't an option on the x's) -would love the two tone seats from the rocky mountain edition -sentry theft immobilizer -full doors -auto dimming rear view mirror with comp/temp -trac lok limited slip -cruise control That said it seems that a sahara (which was last produced in 04) would be the best route to go with items such as the two tone seats just swapping out for some I might find in a salvage yard or ebay. Would others agree? I've heard that the x (rocky mountain edition) was unable to be equipped with locking fuel cap, abs, and sentry theft immobilizer is this true? Does anyone know of a website that would give year by year changes with options available per model group? I know that abs, immobilizer, dana 44, 3.73 gear, cruise control, and locking fuel cap I want for sure. And rear view mirror auto dimming with temp/comp is something I can add to it if it doesn't come with. I do also know that walmart sells locking fuel caps (as I had one on my old TJ) but felt that it was a pain having two different keys on my key chain. I've been told that the locking fuel cap from the factory is able to utilize the same key that you use to turn the jeep on with. thanks for everyones help. **Also, I recall static in the winter months being a problem with my TJ. People as well as myself would shock themselves getting in and out (touching the door) and I know static guard spray helped but didnt cure problem. Do you guys know if the 03+ revised seats helped? I know the new JK has anti static seats, but I can't afford a new one.

your best bet it to try and find a Sahara. most have D35 rear ends, but you can find them with Dana 44s. if it doesn't have a locking gas cap, get one at pep boys for few bucks.

Here's some stock TJ specs from the sticky thread at the top of the forum:

yea, the locking fuel cap I realize but the reason was mostly to have the factory key fit in the factory fuel cap, thus no more two keys on key chain.
Wheelin, I've seen those two threads. Thanks, but I was looking for an option list. |

Options varied so much year to year, I don't think anyone has complied an actual list of all the options available from 97-06

The locking gas caps are notorious for failure, and result in having to be wrested off with slip joint pliers. I'd skip that one entirely. I was led to believe that they required a separate key anyway.

my 04 sahara ignition key also unlocks the factory locking gas cap. so for i havent had to use any pliers, but there is always a first time for anything.

I know that when I went to look at my 06 X, you could get all of that as options, but it didnt make much sense since it was basically a sport but cost more...I am not sure if you could get the Rocky Mountin edition with all the options though.

Cruise, intermittent wipers, A/C, tow hooks, fog lights, 7 speaker system, D44 (but they all came with that). The only things it didn't have were Sirius, compass/temp./auto dimming rear view mirror, and rear disc brakes. |

Go with an '06 LJ, you'll get just about everything on your list.

Thanks fellas. This has helped tremendously and should be stickied. Especially since used car dealerships state "anti-lock" brakes when it's impossible since it wasn't available as an option on that model.
