tj steering questions

hey guys, need your help. I just got a 99 TJ with a 2.5, 33 inch tires and a rancho suspension lift. It runs and rives great, but it wanders like crazy at 40+ mph. No death wobble, just really loose steering... i just took off the track bar to look at it, the bushing seemed fine, but im replacing it anyways with an energy suspension one(got it from autozone for 12 dollars) but the ball joint on the end, i can wiggle with one finger? GOOD or BAD? haha. im lost here, and wondering if i need a new track bar, and if so do you have any suggestions. any help would be awesome! thank you, Nick

Have you had it aligned?

I'd be cautious with a one finger wobbeling ball joint, try a nice adjustable trackbar since your replacing it anyways.

Best thing to check you track bar and steering is have someone dry steer it back and forth while you're under it feeling for looseness.

I read ball joint wiggles as did half the posters. I just re-read it and see he is not talking about the ball joints and trac bar. [insert pirate flip off smiley here]

wow, got some replies lol. sorry i havent responded back, ive been working like crazy.

as for the ball joint wiggling, its the actual ball joint/tie rod end of the track bar that i can wiggle with one finger. i put energy suspensions bushings on the track bar and its improved the handling, but it still gets loose around 45+

im gonna take it to get it aligned on friday when i get paid, and as for looking underneath, i cant really see anything with any play when the wheel is being turned. I also did the normal tie rod and ball joint test (hands at 9 and 3, and 12 and 6 on the tire)

i love the jeep, but i about crap myself whenever i get on the highway down here in arkansas

you should be able to find someone selling a stock track bar on the cheap.

You can usually buy a whole new track bar for around $65 also.
