TJ Skidplates - Control Arm Mount/Body Mount Skids ?

I'm trying to get my nearly stock '01 TJ armored-up and need to know if control arm mount bracket skids are considered necessary?

how about the body mount skids?

I figure you are bashing the rocks pretty hard to hit the body mounts, but the LCA brackets seem worth protecting?

I use the Skid Row bolt on Control Arm Mount skids, have seen too many with bent up mounts. Others will Argue that you should just go with weld ons for the mount skids.

i've definitely made good use of my weld-on style control arm skids.

the body mount skids are useful as well...i've only hit my kilby body clamz once tho. better safe than sorry, especially when you see what rock vs body mount looks like.

Bringing it back since my body mounts are chewed up. Unlimited04, would you give me some pictures of your kilby body mount skids? Thanks, Looks like I need some before I have to get new mounts welded...

control arm skids are a must almost, they also help keep them from bending, i used to think body mount skids were pointless till i saw my body mounts one day.....

those body mount skids are debris magnets tho. rocks like to collect in the dovetail lips. I avoid mud like the plague, but they would really collect mud bad.

At least get a set of weld-on LCA skids. Crawl under your Jeep and look at how thin the stock ones are, and look at how low they are. They're about the lowest thing on your Jeep other than the bottom of the diffs. You'll be hitting your LCA mounts before you hit your body mounts. It's cheap insurance.

So as far as a control arm bracket, are they just basically a flat piece of steel with bent up lips welded on the CA bracket? How thick should they be. My goal this summer is to armor my jeep up as much as possible so I am protected as much as possible for wheelin during college when I will have no money for repairs.

Would 3/16 be heavy enough or should I go on and do 1/4?

I had some like these (obviously mine were for a TJ) welded on my Jeep http://www.northridge4x4.com/proddetail.php?prod=JKS-OGS115. I actually got them from Northridge and he welded them on for me at his shop. They're inexpensive, thick, and are already cut, bent, and ready for welding. When we put mine on, we had to tweak one of my LCA mouts with a big hammer before we could weld it on because it was already crooked.

3/16 is fine. heck the stock mounts are like 1/8" or less. flat won't work because it will interfere with the stock control arms, there needs to be a bend to get them away from the movement of the arms.
