TJ mods to avoid

Have any of you guys done mods to your TJ's and afterwards felt it was a waste of time and money? Any mods you regret?

Those stupid Gunmetal hinges and light guards. They were my first mod when I got my Jeep and wanted to personalize it a little. Sure they look nice, but the finish started wearing off after a few months, and the guards cost more than the part they are supposed to protect.

I haven't done that much. I would definitely stay away from drilling any holes in my body. My 04 is just too new for that...

Having a rear bumper/carrier combo. It would have been cheaper to throw 3 or 4 bags of concrete mix in the back of the TJ. Way too heavy.

I had the Body Armor, sold it, and now I run the spare on the tailgate. Also, a lot of them rattle, so if you're looking to buy one, do you research.

I have a friend with a 2006 Rubi LJ who had the same line of thought. He wondered how I could drill, cut or bang on my jeep. Then he saw that a $150 investment (like trail corners) can save you alot of money compared to slamming the tub.

Yeah I still owe on my Jeep but it needs to last and if that means drilling a hole then I do it. It's easy to repaint 3/16" metal but a biotch to fix torn up sheet metal.

Ahh, It's been done before. I'll check out the link, thanks. All this is great information, and will help me plan my mods so my money is better spent. Maybe we should end this thread with the link above.
