I like the filter being in the canister. Is it waterproof, though? I do also agree that I like it better on the passenger side than near the middle. Looks good though! Good job!!!

I've seen them on the forum for around $50...I haven't searched ebay in awhile though...Just build your own like I did. It's very easy and all you need is a drill and hacksaw...It's held up VERY well!!!

Digging up an old thread... Do you have a pic that shows how the flex hose mates with the flange and hummer snorkel? Some shots of the underneath of the cowl as well?

PMing might get their attention better than reanimating the dead.

This may be a little late, but I just stuck the flex hose into the bottom of the flange to where it would stay. Some silicon around it would seal it and also make it stay in a little better as it's a tight fit under the cowl.

I disagree. I am glad that he brought it back into the main forum. If others had seen this and thought, hey, now I have something to add that people did not try two years ago when this thread was new...

Besides, I never would have known it was a possibility if I had not seen it.

I do wonder, about the height of the mod. I.E. Does it require a certain distance above the hood? Any idea how much it would require? The reason I ask is because I really enjoy having my windshield down, so, obviously I would want to put this on low enough that I could open up the windshield without having to take this thing off every time. Obviously that would run a risk in that it would, potentially, limit the amount of airflow into the engine.

by the way, I wanted to also ask, did you note any significant change, for that matter any change, in the engine when you did this? More power, less power, fuel economy drop or raise? I question the ability of this mod to take in enough air, and it is more of a concern at the higher elevations where I like to play.

Thanks

Brian

I'm not sure on the exact height of it all together. I'd say somewhere around 8" or so. But you would have to take it apart whenever you wanted to drop the windshield. However, it only takes like 30 seconds to unscrew the ring on it, and the top is off. All you would have sticking out is like 2" of the flange previously discussed. Then, I believe your windshield would fold down easily. I'm sure if you can take the time to drop your windshield, you can take the time to unscrew the cover of this.

And, as far as air intake, I believe it helped a little bit. I could notice a little bit more throttle responce, but I think the colder air helped it more than actually getting "more air." With the flex hose, you're creating turbulence in the air coming in, which doesn't exactly help combustion. That's why cold air intakes are smooth on the inside, unlike most stock air intakes, which have "ripples" at the places where they make turns...

And by the way, I wouldn't have checked back on this thread if you hadn't pm'd me...

I know this is an old thread, but I did not see the point in creating a new one to ask about old topics. I want to try my own snorkel like this one. I tried to take my cowel off to see what it looked like under there to get an idea of what I want to do. From what I can tell there are 5 screws that hold it on. 4 directly under the windshield and 1 in the middle of the vent. So once I remove the wipers I should be able to remove the cowel. But mine seems to be stuck. The metal started to bend instead of the cowel comming off. Is there something I'm missing here?

Did you get the two screws under the weather strip? They are in the middle of the cowl about 8" or so apart. You have to pull up the strip to get to them.

Just for the purpose of putting more information on the internet... here are some pics of mine. It is basically the same thing as shown except I had to add a nipple for the PCV valve hose. Also, I designed an aluminum adapter to mate the buick airbox with the intake tube (which is ridiculously thick BTW).

More pics to come... once installed.
