So how has this held up? I'm looking to something like this during the summer.

Man... do you really ever ford deeper than 46 inches? I rarely slop water over my door sills at 32 inches, which leaves another 14 inches freeboard to the stock air horn.

Yes, I've had water 2 inches over the hood before, prior to the intake. It wasn't for an extended period of time, but it still worried me enough to do the snorkel.

And, it has held up very well. No leaks and it has stayed on perfectly. I have taken the top off of it a few times to lay back the hood. Unscrew the clamp and it's off...total of 5 seconds. I highly recommend this mod!!!

The water doesn't have to be right up to the stock airbox to cause issues. The mechanical fan will toss a lot of water and slop around under the hood if you are in deep enough for the blades to catch it. This mod totally eliminates that issue.

Very nicely done!

I think he had a writeup where he explained how he sprayed them using cans of paint and either a real or fake leaf.

Correct. Link: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f46/camo-your-fender-flares-424338/ If you do this, make sure you take the flares off as a pressure washer will peel them pretty bad. I'd also suggest using a clearcoat or sealer/etc... as mine have peeled pretty bad(but it was mainly from using bedliner instead of krylong fusion black paint)

2000 and up:
Just to revive a good thread, and ask how this mod can be done for a 2000 and up tj. What is that big boxy thing under the flange, and how can you make the hummer intake fit?

Don't forget that when you do this you need to put your hand over the end of the intake tube and see if the engine stalls. If not you have more holes to plug.

2000+ with the full black piece is basically the same. You just have to cut the top of the black piece off. Here's the link from the first page with pics of it: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f27/write-up-hummer-cold-air-intake-326040/

As an update, it's been almost a year and it's been perfect. Done some deep stuff, mainly mud and water. No problems sucking water. I haven't had to adjust anything or had any problems out of it. I have even had the cap off a couple times to fold the hood back to the windshield for extended periods under there. It's only like 30 seconds to unscrew the clamp and take it off...Still very happy

cowl intake

here's mine: http://sports.webshots.com/album/85979787uFAozy

about $150 and its a breather from a hydraulic system, the filter is already in it and you can get either 3 or 10 micron and there is a K&N which also happens to fit - but you do need to weld or machine a flange to mount it with, other than that a simple install

What did you use for the intake? It looks like there may be some restriction.
Is the fiter inside the flange? Looks good, but I think I would prefer it closer to the passanger side in that little "dip" area on the flange.
