TJ Headlight upgrade..

One of my headlight lenses has a hole in it from a rock chip and it is starting to turn a dull color and it looks bad and puts out less light. I was looking around at headlight upgrades and was wanting to know what everyone else is using.

Here is what I found...

Yes on the housings. Good product, good price.

No on the 'magic bulbs.' First off - blue glow?! jeesh, even my daughter wouldn't do that. But more importantly you can get top notch bulbs for far less money. Not to mention those housing come with IPF bulbs already.

But it's your money.

I did those housings but I went with the Fatboys IIRC. I also needed to adjust them down in a big way as I think is the norm. They are pretty bright and I am happy with them.

Here is my understanding from reading a lot of threads on this topic....

IPF and Fatboys is a very popular mod. Some people suggest you upgrade the wiring harness. The lenses are not DOT approved. There are also complaints about how the light housings don't fit tight and tend to rattle. However, the light output is fantastic.

Another option is to use Delta housings. They are DOT approved and fit mcuh better. The same Fatboy bulbs will work. Same issue with the wiring harness. Again, excellent light output.

Another option is from http://www.roundeyes.com/Jeep_Headlamps-7_Round_Jeep_Conversion_Headlamps.html. It is what I have. Does not need upgraded wiring harness, and is DOT approved. Very good light output. I tested them against stock, and stock housings with Silverstar bulbs. The bulb & lens from Roundeyes is far superior. They cost $110 and can be installed in 15 minutes.

I thought the blue glow would look pretty trick, turn off the lights and have a blue glow slowly fade out. Kinda make it look like it is powering down.

I like that you dont need to worry about being legal or messing with the wiring harness. They look pretty sharp too.

I bought the Rampage light kit here:

They look just like the headlights on the 08 JK and they work great.

Based on this article in JP Magazine, I bought the Hella Vision Plus headlights.

Here is the best price I could find on them(and they come with the bulbs).

I went with the IPF H4 conversion and they are outstanding, they make my PIAA 510 55w replacement fog lights absolutely useless on either beam

Yes, there is a lens.

- Unbreakable clear polycarbonate lens
- Gortex® breather allows heat to escape while keeping moisture out of the lamp assembly
- Lamp assembly can handle off-road bulbs up to 130 watts
- Easy drop fit installation with no additional wiring needed
