If the part is a standard issue, isn't the "maker" responsible for ensuring that all the required parts are on the vehicle when sold?
Does this mean that we all bought incomplete vehicles. What about safety? Are both spring retainers necessary or not?

My TJ had both spring retainers. When we put my lift on, the guy I was helping said that it was weird that I had those. Said he didn't see to many TJ's with them

Yup. I'm not gonna bother with them, since it's only happened twice and both times have been on the same section of trail. Besides, it'll be easier swapping in those 4.5" coils later .

resurrecting an old post, but found from dealer that that it was a manufacturer part required during assembly if needed only, but not really functional when on the road. nonetheless I bought one to make thing symmetrical....$3.60.

I had the same issue no clip or bolt on the passenger side. I wasnt sure if I wanted to run my disconnects undone on my sway bar, just in case the spring got loose and shifted. I wouldnt even want to deal with that on a trail. I went to the dealer and ordered one. It cost 7 bucks or so, for the clip and the bolt. But totally worth the piece of mind when Im out on the trail.

If symmetry was what you were after, you could have just removed the one you had, cost = $0.00 and would have taken no longer than it did to install the new one.

i am missing the clip on the passenger side also. and i have poped out my passenger front spring too but that was during some trail damage where i also bent my lca into a zigzag and pulled the shock through the frame mount.(basically tore that side of the front axle out from under the jeep...good times lol) anyway i still dont think a retaining clip is necesarry on the passenger side because the passenger side does not droop as far as the driver side due to the trac bar.

Symmetrical? That's amusing. The reason there is only one clip installed is because the springs are both wound the same direction, but the lower spring perches are assymetrical. The tails are mounted opposite directions from one another and the clamps are in the same mirrored locations.
In order for it to be symmetrical, they would have to mirror image the perches instead of just rotating them opposite each other front to back. Then they would have to wind one spring backwards from the other and have two different part numbers for front springs.
They way it is now, one of the clamps pins down the dead end of the spring pigtail and the other one tries to pin down a section of the spring that's "live" and moves.
If your springs are falling out on the trails, fix your suspension instead of throwing band-aids at it.

The symmetry comment was a joke by the way. I am installing new springs and both clips were there on stock springs when I started. I lost the passenger spring clip and searched everywhere for it. So I'm trying to put your comments into perspective. Some jeeps have 0,1 or 2 spring clips. Dealer said it was for assembly purposes. So mine HAD two clips 3 days ago and now it has 1.

Set your shock extended length so that when the axle is at the end of the shock's full stroke, the spring just comes loose in the perches. Everything else is BS.

So you're saying a shock should be used as a limiting strap? I always thought you could damage a shock if you max it out in either fully extended or fully compressed repeatedly.
