TJ Bikini - Channel necessary?

I'm looking to get the Bestop Safari top for my g/f's 97 Wrangler. Alot of the reviews talk about needing to get the windshield channel as well. I'm curious if anyone knows how "required" this is. We don't have a hard top, and the soft cover we have for the jeep already uses a windshield channel... would this work with the Bestop, or do you need to purchase that as well no matter what?

Thanks for the replies.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Didn't know if the channel was any different for some reason... are all channels created equal? I just know that we do have a channel on it, like I said, our current full cover soft top uses it...

You should not need it. I use my stock soft top hardware without the back pieces.
But, if you want to buy one I will sell mine for $25.00 shipped.
