TJ AC to OBA
Going to covert my AC into a on board air setup. I have found a pretty good thread on the whole conversion done on a cherokee. Just wondering if anybody has any tips for doing it on a TJ that may help along the way. Aloso any good sources for parts. I have most of the fittings just need to decide on a filter, oiler, pressure switch and tank.

I've burned up two stock pumps trying to use them for OBA, I do not believe the design can handle the abuse (despite what you might read on the net).
The 2nd pump I used an HD oiler (not a mister) and streamed a continuous stream of oil into it and it still burned up after a few heavy uses. Sadly I suspect the only real solution for high-volume continuous air is to graft in a big heavy ugly York pump. |

Thats not what I was hoping to hear. What are you considering heavy use? Anybody else have similar experiences? May have to start looking for an older style internally oiled york compressor. Is that the way to go?

I done mine, 2 friends have done theirs. No problems yet.Pumping air is no way near the abuse it gets in its intended use as an a/c pump where it cycles more often and runs for extended times.

I did my TJ 6 years ago and it still works great. Never a problem. I have a 2.5 gal tank along the frame rail on the drivers side.

I've got a buddy with one in his 2.5L and he often lets me barrow some air after he fills up his 36-inch tires. Im running 33's and all we ever have done is let it cool down for a minute or two between filling up his then mine.

1. No, its pretty much a one way thing. 3. You would want a tank. |

No you can only use it for one or the other. You need some kind of pressure switch and I would reccomend a storage tank.It will pump way more than the 150psi that I have mine set to shut off.

Depending on where you live AC is totally useless. I live in the Washington state area and honestly doors off, bikini top on doing 35+ there is no need for AC.

Do a forum search for On Board Air. Make sure you check out Stu's site, he has a really good set up. Kilby also has some great info.
![]() I have AC in my TJ and I am planning on doing the OBA mod this summer. The initial plan is to keep the AC, but we'll see how that goes. I like the AC when it's hot and humid here in the northeast. I also don't mind it when I'm traveling out west.
