TJ with 4" lift & short arms, any potential probs with this setup?

Hello Jeepforum,

This is my first post so please bear with me.
I am going through the process of scouting out used jeeps to buy. I have found one that I really like, it has a TeraFlex 4" lift on it, not a problem in my eyes, however the owner has notified me that is has short arms on it, instead of the TeraFlex recommended long arms. Can you please let me know what problems I might be opening my self up to if I were to purchase this Jeep. The Jeep does have the TeraFlex Short Shaft Kit(SYE) with the upgraded rear driveshaft as well and 33" BFG tires.

One other question, the owner has told me that he planned on upgrading to Dana 44 Rear Axle when he went to 35" tires, but he didn't get bigger tires so he left the rear axle stock. I have heard many people say that the upgrade to Dana 44 is a must. I will, at first, be doing very light off road stuff and mostly just the short around town and commuting a short distance to work, will the stock axles and stock gears be fine for now?
Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Ben

Expect a rough ride.

it wont be too rough with a 4in lift, any over 4.5 it can get rough. also the tera arms arnt too good because the joints go bad pretty easily.

people have been doing it for years...
once you start you will never start.
seen it done with stock arms
as well with full blown kits.
do what you can afford and build from there
besides the kits you will as have to do drive shafts
then when you think you are finished
you will want to remove the shovel and then tummy tuck it.
it is a never ending saga.....

A 4" SA lift is no big deal and you have the SYE so as long as it was all installed properly, you should have a decent ride. As far as your rear axle goes, just don't put a locker in it with the stock Dana 35c.

Ditch the Terra short control arms.Mine ripped off the top rear mount from the frame. It won,t be a problem if you don,t offroad it-otherwise=
Everything else should be ok for now.

Go for it. The short arms at 4" are somewhat bumpy but ok. It already has the SYE/CV and that's a big plus. You can deal with the rear axle later. There are several solutions to that. I have a 4" short arm lift [it's mixed] and an SYE/CV. I do have a D44 rear but I bought it that way new.
Now - what about the other things with it? How many miles? 4 or 6 cylinder? What year is it?

The #1 item I would look for in a used TJ is a D44. It'll save you a bunch in the long run.

I've got 4" on short arms. No problem there.
