Might depend on the year, but my 04 has a 19gal tank. I usually drive for 10 or 15 miles with the gas light on and it takes around 16.5 gallons.

there used to be a 15-gallon standard tank...and an optional 19-gallon...

'99 or '00 was the last year for the 15-gallon...after that, 19-gallon was the only tank...

(it's actually the SAME tank...there was just a longer vent tube on the 15-gallon tank so you couldn't get 19-gallons in it)...

I thought all 4's came with 15 gal and all 6's came with 19 gal? Doh, I have a '99 and I thought I had a 19 gal. Cost me $30 to fill up, when gas was $2 a gal, and quarter of a tank left.

I believe it is on gottrail.com/tj, the writeup about the vent hose and how to shorten it for 19 gallons on the 15 gal. tank.

97-99 15 gall was standard on ALL models except Sahara, 19 gallon was an option.

2000 and up 19 gallon is standard on ALL models.

mine has the 19 gallon tank, but it never takes more than 14 gallons (which is about 200 miles. i always run it until the light comes on and fill it until the pump clicks off.

nope...I did it to our '99...

takes about an hour...only cost is buying a new fuel pump seal for ~$10 (not a necessity, but why risk it)...

I did a pseudo-writeup that's around here somewhere...

just reach inside the tank and cut the smaller tube (the one WITHOUT the "ping-pong ball" in it) flush with the inside of the tank...

I regularly get 18.5 gallons in when I fill up now...not sure how much it REALLY holds now...

Excellent, Did you do anything to recalibrate the fuel gauge? I'm sure that if nothing is done it just registers full until you get below the 15 gallon mark.

What exactly was the point of the 15 gal tank anyway? If they went through the trouble of making it in a 19 gal size and putting it on all of them, why make a different tube?

cause they made a little $$ if you "upgraded" to the 19-gallon...
