^^^^^x2. Wanna go fast? Don't drive a TJ. Or just drive it downhill.
Edit> no I don't have any experience with a Jet chip. But I've found dreaming about ANY performance help for my TJ is a we. dream. Please don't call me a ****** for commenting without any real life experience with a JC |

I didn't see any comment about going FASTER...
Would you make any"fast" comments to anyone with a 4.0 trying to upgrade the performance of his engine? I barely see any upgrade comments for a 2.4 engine.Maybe it's because for a 4banger is strong "enough" Ohhh I do have a personal experience in this "set up". Before and after. No miracles but slight improovement in mileage and strength... I would recomment if you can find it used for half the money... |

don't get a chip, waste of money. same answer for your other header thread, same with a CAI. you're screwed, swap the motor.

Regearing is really your best bet for the most noticeable increase in "power".
I don't know if having the head worked over is worth any amount of gain on the 2.4, but it's another possibility. |

To get more power out of the 2.4L you could install a PT cruiser turbo setup. Read through this thread http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/turbocharged-2-4l-my-tj-333749/, another JF member Air Sierra already set it up.

Power chips barely do anything at all and even then they require the engine to be at wide open throttle and extremely high rpms. Not to mention most will cause your engine to ping unless you run high octane gas. You won't feel any performance difference around town and you won't feel any performance difference on the highway... at least not unless you keep it floored and at near redline rpms. They're a complete waste of $$$ in my personal opinion, unless you plan to race your Jeep at the drag strip.

I have an 05 2.4L - 4400 lbs with my wife and I - 4.88 gears, Jet Stage 1, Airaid filter, Screamin Demon Coil, 1 high flow cat between the rails, and a high flow muffler. I run 89 octane. It drives very easily. I pull a 1/4 ton military trailer with no problem. I5 between Portland and Seattle - 6th on the flats, 5th on the grades. It will accelerate up grades in 5th pulling the trailer. I probably don't load the trailer heavier than 800 lb gross. With the coil added, the computer does not like it if it is lugged too much. It will miss and I have to shift down 1. It rarely sees 4500 RPM and I routinely get 18 mpg pulling the trailer at 67 mph. Seems Areo is much worse then weight.

I don't want to mis-lead you. The number 1 mod I listed was 4.88 gears. This is very important and you need to re-gear for the tire size you run. That said, the tuning stuff shines on the highway (provides nothing on the trail). I'm not aware of a header but it will respond to exhaust work. Without regear you will not see benefit. I built mine incrementally and it runs very well.
