those with auto-dimming compass temp. mirror

Does anyone know where the outside temperature sensor is located?

If possible could someone trace the sensor wire to it?

PackMan 04-17-2007 09:52 PM

I think it's up in front of the radiator. A brilliant DCX move that always makes the mirror report a higher than actual temp.

OTH, just having an LED display in my mirror makes me feel better about parking my modest Jeep next a built TJ with 1-ton axles and 37" tires.

:D haha

Thanks for the response PackMan

Can anyone else confirm this?

the temp sensor if standing in front of the jeep is down low on the passenger side tucked into the grille, and yes it seems to always read a degree or two high... esp since the sensor is BLACK it will also pick up radiant heat from anything warm....

I'm interested in this, too - I've thought about picking up a mirror that has HomeLink for my garage door operner. How is power supplied up to the mirror?

I have the electrical end on the driver side, low, just behind the grill. You should be able to see it looking through the grill next to the headlight. I assume that's where the sensor would be.

If you dont have the sensor fitted the connector is attached just inside on the bottom of the grill.

If you mount the sensor using the DCX bracket it will sit in front of the rad and read high (especially when the vehicle is standing).

You can however mount it below the grill / rubber seal and save the cost of the bracket - I just used one of the "christmas tree" fasteners for the rubber seal to attach mine.

Here is a good write up if you are thinking of adding the mirror: http://www.wanderingtrail.com/Rubi_2...lec_Mirror.htm

Of course this is only this easy if you are trying to fit the mirror to an 03 or later.

It is also a handy way to keep tabs on the temperature of your winch when in use

All 2003+ Wranglers are pre-wired for the mirror. The mirror plugs in under the dash cover and the sensor plugs behind the grill into an existing plug.

I have one in my 2000 Tj and i love it

Just keep in mind it is inaccurate as hell when crawling, unless I haven't been through Death Valley, bet regularly see temps at 110-115 when its only 90 out when wheeling.

I like the auto dimming feature a heck of a lot more than the stupid temp readout.

Consider relocating the sender as I described - still not 100% but much more accurate

My thoughts too, just wondering how the wiring goes

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but my 06 Unlimited doesn't. Apparently, the pre-wire harness for this option went the way of cup holder inserts
