I don't really care what the criteria for input speed is other than if there is a restriction, that is enough argument to get a 241 instead with NO restrictions. Price is negligable as is difficulty of installation.

I would go with a 241, but i have a 4 cylinder with AX5 Transmission that a 241 will not mate up to, So my options are limited.

Rubi case is good, but no 2LO. By the time you rebuild the 231, pay for 2Lo and the TeraLow, and beef up the internals with the wide chain and good planetary... the Rubi is cheaper. By far.

But for the best of all worlds, and to never again have to worry about strength... Atlas 4 speed. Sure it's 3 grand, but it'll give you EVERY possible gear ration you'll need for 99.99% of ALL wheeling you'll do.

OR... JB Conversions 231HD, add a KluneV

x2 and never look back. Cable shifters come up through factory shifter location, one little one inch hole had to be drilled by e-brake handle, and didn't have to modify tranny tunnel for the 4 speed to fit either.

While I love an Atlas...there is still quite a bit more work involved in putting one in than a Rubi NP241OR.

Pound for pound..penny for penny the 241 easily wins for a TJ. Going to +37" tires, D60's, V8 conversion..then go Atlas.

I thought all you had to do was swap the transmission ouput shaft in order to mate a 241 up to the AX5...this is just a thought, I may be completely wrong.

Mine did also. No cutting or even massaging the tub. It was completely a bolt-in project.

OK I have to add to this for the fact of not starting another thread. I HATE TERAFLEX products and will not buy anything else from them again. I searched the threads and apparently didn't search for "problems with tera low kit" or I would have found this before my problem. I bought the darn tera low kit and after about 25 miles of trail riding and 50miles of highway driving after the install. I realized that all the oil had leaked out of the t-case from the input shaft. I tore out the t-case to find that the freeze plug had not been installed right. Manufacture problem because this we don't touch during the install. It is inside the planetary gear set just behind the female splines on the t-case.

They gave me the run around with reasons not needed to be disgused. They wanted to me to fill the hole up with silicone and be done with it. I was not happy with this response so I called up Quadratec witch is who I bought it form and told them what had happened. They said they would take care of it and send me a new kit. 2 weeks later and I have not recieved my kit yet. So I called Quadratec costomer service. Keith took my call. He had to call teraflex to get a tracking number. After getting the run around from teraflex he found out that they did not send one yet. So quadratec had one in stock and is going to send it to me overnight at no cost to me. Chalk one up for Quadratec I can't pick a fight with them. But unfortunatly still stuck with teracrap for my jeep. Hopefully this one will last long enough to get some use out of it before I can justify going with the Atlas. Hope this helps someone else in the future.

If it were ME (and this is what I did!), I'd sell the replacement teracrap products without even reinstalling it. Save up a little coin and get a DURABLE t-case so you don't have to do the job again.

For the cost that 4:1 kit and the SYE you almost buy an atlas.

I guess you haven't read this thread from the beginning. Please don't buy a tera low kit. Junk. Like I had stated earlier that if I would have seen this thread before buying and installing one I would not have in the first place.
