One more reason I'm glad I spent a little more money and went with an Atlas.

Yep, he's one of a long list of us that have had mechanical issues with teracrap's garbage. I'm just sorry I had to join "the list" before I got wise and did the Atlas.
And for all the folks that claim "it's under warranty and tera will fix it..." I'll pass, thanks!
There are many here who won't install a lifetime warranty waterpump from Autozone because it doesn't last as long and they don't want to do the job again needlessly. I SURE don't want to swap the t-case again, so I got one that will likely outlast my Jeep!

Haha nice change of heart. Although thats been an issue with the kits for a little bit from what I have read.

My friend bought a jeep with the 4:1 already in it. A c clip poped off on a trail and left him stuck in neutral.

How did you end up fabbing up the rear tranny mount to skidplate interface? You and I have about the same vintage TJs so insight at that end of the t-case would be helpful. And is the shifter linkage the same between the 231 and 241? I have a Novak shifter on my 231 and I think it will work on the Rubi t-case but I don't know that for sure.

---UPDATE--- My TeraLow is still working fine. Don't exceed the 3000 rpm limit as placed on the 4:1 by TeraLow and you should be fine of course EVERY manufacture has defects sometimes.

Exceed 3000 rpm and you risk planetary damage like mentioned.

I forgot to mention that I only had 5,500 miles over a 6 month time frame.Checked the fluid level once a month and I didnt exceed the 3,000 rpm while in low range. I even stuck with my stock 3.73 gears so I wouldnt need to wind up the gears in transfer case on climbs.

When I did my installed my 241 I had the same shifter that you do. I was not able to get it to work with the 241. I spent about 2 weeks of evenings trying every angle I could to get the shifter to work with the 241. I finally gave up and got one of the new Novak cable shifters.

The couple that I have done required a small rectangle cut out of the mount so the 241 would fit. I can't remember if we did anything else. The stock shifter linkage sometimes requires the long bar to cut and flipped around as the 241 shifter arm is pointing up and the 231 points down. I just cut and welded them back together. I'd much rather have the Novak!

Bump, Some questions about the Teralow 4:1 for np231

What seems to be the " grenade " point for the kit, im hearing stay below 3000, 2000.... what seems to be the general red zone while in 4 low?

Also, I understand this is more geared toward rock crawling, but what about if your going through some mud or a hill climb and need the higher RPMs? SOL ? ... put it in 4 high?

When I had my Yj I thought of going Atlas...now that I have my TJ...I have gone between thinking of getting a Rubi tc (already have the D44 axles) or putting in a Tera 4.1.

I'm leaning towards the Tera only because I want to get most of my mods simple enough without it leading to other issues...cutting, notching, shift levers etc...my old Yj had so many different Jeep models and parts on it I had troubling remembering what was what...it was the Jeep version of a Heinz 57

I would strongly advise against a TeraLow, I wheel with NMLJ almost every weekend and can vouch for the fact that he did not abuse his LJ. (edit: not abuse it in any way that would affect the TC) He's not the only person I personally know that has had a TL grenade. Out of 4 people I run with 2 have had issues with the planaterys.

BTW isn't the 3000rpm limit meaningless or at least a very poor guide. Since the TC is driven by the output shaft of the transmission 3000rpm in 1st turns the planaterys way slower than in 2nd/3rd etc.
