a Rubicon t-case can be had for $700-850.

I would not do a TeraLow into a NP231 for one simple reason - you'll never get your money out of it. A NP231 w/ SYE and Teralow will only sell for about $500-600 if you're lucky, and you've still got a weaker t-case. If you're going to do 4:1, do it once and get something bombproof, like a NV241OR, Atlas or Stak.

Pretty sure if you went with "you'll never get your money out of it" attitude, you couldnt even buy a jeep. Much less modify it.

i agree, but there is a difference between spending money well and just wasting money. putting money in a D35 and a NP231 are examples of wasting money in my opinion...

Money I'd wish I'd have spent differently for many of the reasons above... If i'd put the money spent on the Terlow/2Low/SYE/Labor to install, I'd be a good way towards an Atlas...as is it, I now have a T-Case that is decent for what I'm doing now...in the future will probably get upgraded... Of the big stuff I've done (Lift, axles, gears, lockers), it's the one that I regret and wish I'd waited on or done differently.

I've been happy with the rock crawling ability of the Tera. However, with my gears (4:56) there's often too much engine braking for steep trails like in Colorado. I have to keep transferring back and fourth from low to high range. Also, my Tera has been in for several years and the noise in 4-low drives my wife crazy.

Maybe but not often, that's for sure. Most of the used ones I've seen are over $1000.

Maybe differant in every area , but I recently picked up one with a bit over 6K for miles on it - and did end up paying a grand. Passed on quite a few that had 30 - 40 - 50K + for miles, and most were all around that 1000 to 1150 range.

Atlas $2200
Rubicon 241 $1750- $1000
Teralow (blem) $750

If I was rich I would get the Atlas.
If I was lucky I might get the 241 for a grand.
I'm on a budget and don't plan on running anything bigger then 37's, I got the Teralow.

well as a jeeper, i've got a limited budget, so like most people on this forum, i'd say spend money once. don't buy a BB and 31s, only to remove them a year later to buy a 4" lift and 33s. don't regear to 4.10s with 33s only to regear to 4.88s for 35s a year later. save a few thousand bucks and do something right the first time, even if it takes a little longer to save the money, and you have to walk or bum a ride on the hardest trail instead of running it yourself on an inadequetely built rig thats going to break stuff at every corner.

i'm with SuperWade2 on the TeraLow subject...save a few extra months, or wait for Obama's stimulus package, and get yourself an Atlas.

I am already lifted and locked with D44 rear. All of my wheeling is done in the Sierra's.....

If money and time were no object I would love to find a D44 front axle and a NP241o case. I haven't seen a lot of cases around lately, any leads on where to look other than the usual E-bay, or Craigs?
