Teralow for NP231 survey
I am thinking to upgrade my transfer case to a Teralow and 2LOW kit in the "off season" and was wondering what you all thought. I have read several threads on the topic and am aware that I could also try and find a Rubi case and swap it. Thoughts????

I am thinking of doing same. I cant find it, but a couple of months ago, I found Tera Low kit for 750.00 ea. I called and they told me that the kit was new but that the case had slight blem and that they had gotten them from Teraflex, in a bulk deal. It wasnt in my budget at the time, so I didnt get one. If I find the link I will post it.

I saw that. That's on samsoffroad.com. Another reason I am giving this serious consideration, plus its a bolt in without having to mess with the shifter handle.

I have no complaints with my teralow. For $750 it is the best thing going to get a 4:1 low range.

I had the same question last year. And after pricing both options, I was better off getting a used 241.

I love mine and my wife loves hers although hers has yet to get quieter. They are a great upgrade to make up for poor gearing or a good crawl ratio for rock crawling.

I've read about the noise. Is this from an older design?? What causes the noise?? Also, is it only noisy in low range or all ranges??

The noise is caused by the planetary gear design. It is normal. You will hear it loudest in 4LO only but when it is brand new you will hear it in 2HI as well while coasting to a stop. The more 4LO is used the quieter it will become in all ranges.

while i dont have the tera low i do have the 4.1 rubi t-case and i can say unless you're doing rocks the 4.1 reduction makes anything else pretty difficult and you need to know what gear you need to be in for everything. be careful not to push the planetary gears too hard (high gear high rpm) for extended periods of time because there is a lot of friction going on in there and it gets hot fast

I didn't have good luck with tera's stuff on my t-case, and I wouldn't use one again.
![]() I would look for a Rubie case WAY before I went with the tera unit. JMHO...

I was all set to get Tera Low as the 4:1 Low is fantastic.. but when i priced it out i ended up just getting a 2nd hand Rubi Case and it was pretty much bolt on. We did it in about 2 hours. I guess if you dont have your rig set up the way you want with gears then the 4:1 may be a real pain and you could be stuck between 4h 1st gear being too big and 4L 2 or 3 gear still be too small.. On the other hand its been fantastic for me and i use 4L 2nd gear the most. at tick over it just crawls the jeep along... and for steep downhill sections i dont even touch the brakes.. I'd never go back. Either way you go are both good options you'll get 4:1 and that was the reason for doing the whole swap for me. Dave
