Teralow?
Are they worth getting? I have a 4 cyl and plan on getting 4:88s. will the Tera Low make it the gears run too low?

That's a great ratio if you rock crawl and Tera's kit has been out for a long time with a lot of happy users. I'm between it and an Atlas II, though I know which would be the better choice between those two.

The Tera low will only affect your low range crawl ratio, when your tcase is in 2hi your gears will be like normal ie...not reduced. So depeding on your trans you can figure your crawl ratio out like this.
1st gear ratioxaxle ratioxtcase low range= Do the same for both with and without Tera low to figure your final crawl ratio if I had a Tera low mine would be 80.83, since I dont its 53.62. So no it wont make your gears run too low if your doing rockcrawling its a perfect setup.... |

Yeah, the Teralow kit is pricey... not nearly as much as an Atlas II, though with that you're getting a much stronger case at the same time.
The Tera kit is probably the better choice for most, especially behind a 4cyl. To answer the question of too low... not likely. With 4cyl power, you want it as low as you can get, because as was mentioned it only affects your lo-range gear reduction... not 4HI or 2WD.

Very true...but one will need to keep in mind the front driveshaft will either need to be lengthened or get a new one since the lengths are different if I recall correctly so some added cost with the Atlas some dont think about. Between the two Id rather have the Atlas either way you cant go wrong....and as Jerry said if you already have an SYE it will up the value when you sell it to offset the cost of the Atlas. |

The 2lo is something that had to be factored in when I went with the Tera. It's utility in my application is very important. It adds about $200 and makes it even closer in price to the Atlas II. Some forget to factor that in, is why I'm bringing it up ! Sorry if my opinion is "no opinion"

My Tera Lo was one of the best mods I have made to my Jeep. It is pricey, but in my case, I didn't have the coin to re-gear and lock and the Tera got me closer to where my low range needed to be. I will still re-gear when the money is found. My crawl ratio will be about 80:1 when that is done, but I can actually function in low range with the R&P I have now.
And when you have the case cracked open, install the 2-lo as well. For the money, you'll regret it if you don't. The whole case can be torn out rebuilt and re-installed in an afternoon.
