TBT Bolt In Cage

Planning on the TBT product. Love the grab handles and the lack of windshield tie-in...

Any reason not to go with TBT?

HORRIBLE instructions!!! Other than that a good product. Take your time, read some writeups on the web and find someone who has already done one. Now that it's in, I'm satisfied. MUCH cursing getting there.

they're nice until you actually roll the Jeep and need it to last...

find a local fab shop that'll weld you a real cage instead...

yep...I believe that's a TBT cage...

I also know a couple guys that saw it...(yes, they also happen to run a local Jeep shop and custom build cages, exoskeletons, etc for a living, plus for their own personal vehicles)...

if I recall correctly, the story is basically "one more roll" and the driver wouldn't have been so lucky...

every bolt and joint was at it's max, and the cage was pretty much useless afterwards...

I wasn't there, so it is all hear-say...and from a "biased" crowd I will admit...

but, the cost of having one made local is really not that much more than a bolt-on TBT, especially if you take shipping into account...

I can't argue against a local guy fabbing something up -

Wait, I can.....

I don't know a local guy who could do it.......

Do you have anything but opinion and hear say to back your claim that this roll cage doesn't provide good protection?

yeah...I happen to have a guy within 15 minutes of my house that's has vehicles shipped to him from all across the country...and he ships axles, etc, from here to everywhere...

the TBT is a whole lot better than stock, and will probably save your life if you do mild/moderate wheeling, even to the point of some "extreme" stuff...but, just wanted to point out there are other/better options available...

I know most of the places I wheel would only cause a single roll over, or just over on my side...not much around here like the clip you showed...

where are you located? maybe there's a shop within a moderate drive that you just aren't aware of...

if "opinion" is the fact that a guy that builds cages for a living saw it happen, so he understands the structural integrity of one, and you don't think that's enough...then, no, I don't...

assuming that's the video he was referring to...I believe it is, as it's the same one most people bring up when the TBT cage is mentioned...

Check these guys out: http://www.rockdog4x4.com/

They're in Barrington (up on Rt 125 near Rochester). I've seen some of their work on a sweet yellow Scrambler that was competing at last year's Tour De Rocks. Looked pretty good.

bolt ins are nice for the simple fact that they are easy and can be done by the average person. but if you want real structural integrity and a cage that will hold up to more than 1 roll. get either a full weld in cage or a weld in front section like the PSC one. not to mention bolt-in cages can squeak and can get very very annoying...i hate riding in my friends jeep sometimes.

So a bolt in cage only holds up to one roll no matter how easy or violent?

(15 months later and no squeaks in my TBT cage yet)

If it does it's job, and i walk away from a roll. Then even if the cage is trashed, and assuming the Jeep is still drivable, I will gladly buy another cage.
