The tale of Tom turkey and my Jeep

I am driving up Stateline Road not far from the house. Many deer and turkey are in the area. There is a hill on the right and a sharp drop off on the left. As we all know, turkeys do not fly well. Naturally, tom turkey launches himself to try to make across just as I am halfway up the hill. He is clearly not going to make it so I brace for impact. I figured my windshield was smashed. He made it past the windshield and my drivers side mirror took the brunt of the impact. Ever since the mirror will not stay in place. Anyone have an idea as how to tighten it? I have peeled back the rubber housing and see no way to tighten it. TIA.

sounds like part of the housing may have gotten cracked causing it to be loose. I dont see any other reason it would be. Was it damaged like that at all?

No damage before or since. It moves freely for adjustment but it will not stay in place.

I have the same problem with my drivers mirror. When the doors are actually on, anyhting over 50 mph and the wind normally pushes the mirror flat. Maybe the po hit a turkey too...

If you got the old school YJ/TJ mirrors, pull the accordian style boot down and tighten the two phillips srews.

This is interesting my friends TJ 98, when driving at 50 the mirros shift postions very easily and become un-useable. Would you suggestion here help in this case.

on my 2000 wrangler there are 2 parts to the mirror that move the one right on the door that only moves foward and back and then the part thats out a little further that lets you move the mirror in all directions.. wich part is not staying ?

if its the part right next to the door just try to tighten the nut under neath or spray some pb blast let it soak abit and take it appart there is actually a spring in there clean the spring up some times they get oxidized like crazy and wont compress any more because its full of gunk and thats why it wont hold the mirror still because its stuck compressed..

if its the swivil point i beleve there are two screws on the bottem of the mirror see if they are snug and if they are the plastic cup inside the mirror probably is broken and you will most likely need to replace the mirror.

good luck.

Believe it or not he actually made it down the hill - or died trying because he wasn't in the road way behind me!!
