Taking doors off new TJ
Hey, I am sorry because I feel like this is such a dumb question. But I have searched everywhere in the owner's manuel and I have even bought books on Jeeps but I can't figure out how to take the doors off of my 1999 sahara. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ceder

Door removal is simple...13mm socket on the nuts on both hinges will break free easily. After removing the nuts, simply lift and swing the door open (back and forth), pulling up until it comes off - may be a bit heavy so be prepared.
I run with the doors off as much as I can. During the warm months they are more off than on - I love it. Enjoy! ![]()

I bought the little tool www.4wd.com sells. It doesn't strip all the paint off when you loosen the nuts. Also, I don't know if it is different on an older TJ, but on my '05 Unlimited Rubi, the dome light fuse was #4...I believe it was the bottom right fuse in the glove box...

How in the hell did he do that and keep them functional? You can't weld the hinge without keeping the doors from opening. Unless he welded them on completely Dukes of Hazzard style. ![]() |

Haven't taken the doors off of mine yet. I'd like to, but I would need to relocate my side mirrors before I do that. But I am looking forward to it.

Have you taken the doors off yet? How'd it go?
Also, ive taken my doors off and haven't relocated my mirrors. I know its not the best, but you learn to use your eyes more than your mirrors.

I needed to use a jack the first time I took off my driver side door. Remember to grease the hinges when you put the door back on.
As far as mirrors, get a used harley mirror or a big blind spot mirror to fit into the door hinge. |

Took me 2 full mornings of swingin' the F'ers back and forth and pulling up!! My left arm still hasn't recovered!! Got em though! Haven't put em back since. I now intend to keep all hinge parts well greased!

If you have never taken them off, you might want to use a penetrating oil to help loosen the threads on the post that goes down into the hinges. Liquid Wrench works really well.
If you still have a hard time with them, soak them the best you can and leave them over night. That usually worked on old rusty farm equipment. If that didn't work or we needed it to come apart quickly we broke out the torch. I wouldn't recommend applying any heat. Well if you like your paint job anyway ![]()

Just had mine painted and the next day the doors came off and the bolts were scratched. Now it's not a worry on my mind anymore. ![]()
