T-Case Shifter Mod

Got tired of the stock shifter set-up on my 01 TJ. (ok bored, and can not leave anything alone)
Shifts great and now I can add whatever knob I want.
I'm also thinking I can use the open space in front of the knob, even in two high, now that it's bent up and shorter, for switches or something.

- Took the shifter out. (Remove the front half of the center consol, two bolts, remove pin and push out spring.
- Cut the rubber section off, and remove gear pattern insert.
- Place in vise, and tighten vise to take out as much bend as you want.
- Cut flat end off shifter
- Thread shifter
- Re-install.
- put gear pattern on left side of consol. (glue, velcro, whatever)
I had a broken screwdriver handle I tapped and stuck on there for now. I like the feel of it, but want 3-4 inches from the splined end of an axle for a knob.

I think a rock knob would be cool.

I like the look of the rock knob. However I would like to pick my own rock.
I wonder what it would take to drill a hole in a rock? maybe a masonary bit?
Then epoxy in a correctly threaded nut?
There's a lot of cool river rocks in the dry canyons and such where we wheel.
