SYE install Question about seal

On the xfer case the Front Output shaft had an O-ring type seal. It was rather large. It was pretty chewed up too. The dealer doesnt have any and cannot find which seal it would be. Anyone hear have any ideas?

Did you check the parts breakdown for that transfer case in the Quadratec or Four Wheel Drive catalogs? There's a good chance that o-ring is listed there.

Are you running the stock output shaft? If so the dealer should be able to order the seal? If it is an aftermarket output shaft/SYE the manufacturer should be able to point you in the right direction.

Got the Oil Seal, Front output from the dealer but it had was metal with the spring in it. This was more of just a large 0-ring. I was at the dealer we looked at multiple year 231's they had (knowing most were the same) He let me look at the diagram on the computer and we see anything like it.

Its the front output and still stock.

Like Jerry said check Quadratec or maybe some places that rebuild trannys/tcase in your area like one remanf. shop...theres one here in San Antonio and they have rebuild kits for axles, trannys, tcases...etc.

Is it a seal that looks like these (in the red box)...maybe the seal wasn't as chewed up as you thought?

You should be able to get that from the dealer.

-Frank

EDIT: Ok, I just used my friend's chrysler dealer connect password, and I cannot find that seal for the front output shaft on the parts breakdown in the TechConnect section either.

EDIT2: how about this site, number 26 looks like it might be what you are looking for, but it says its only up to '95.

Are you sure that you are talking about the front output and not the rear output?

There is a large oil seal like the one you are talking about on the tail housing, the part numbers are Federal Mogul 3946 or Chicago Rawhide 18662.

I just changed mine last week.
