I'm thinking about getting an SYE also, soooo - Dumb question - why do you have to relocate the shock mounts to add an SYE?

Update #3

OK, have to call it quits for the night. Need to drive the wife to the airport.

I got the main case half back together so that will give the RTV overnight to dry.

Let's see if I can answer some questions:

1. Got the SYE and TW DS from www.offroadtoystore.com. Those guys are great! Also got my RE lift from them. The kit was $475 with free shipping.

2. Started this afternoon at 2:30 and stoped at 8. But that was with breaks and an hour delay to AutoZone for a puller for the front yoke. That was the only snag I ran into.

3. Rear lower shock relocation kit is needed since I will be rotating the pinion up once the new CV DS is on. As it was, my rear shocks were dangerously close to the brake lines (lower mounts) so I didn't want to risk it.

4. Read instructions on shift rail length. Yes, I read that in the instructions. Made me nervous but my rail was right at 1 inch so all is well.

Funny thing is, the longest time was spend cleaning RTV off the case (about an hour)!

The only other issue that made me nervous is the pickup tube for the oil pump. I made sure it was seated before installing the back case half but the pump moves around while you are doing it. Looks like it is seated but that one will keep me thinking for a while.

Will startup again early in the morning with more pics.

Thanks, thats good to know. It seems like every mod I've done has some hidden details that I didn't think about. I hope the rest of yours goes great.

Soo, you're getting me excited to start collecting materials for my future SYE...
think I'll run out to Sears today and get my lock ring and snap ring pliers....
Just so I don't screw up you wouldnt happen to have the sears part number of those 2 tools would you?...And Im still wondering about the RTV...not questioning what your doing, its probably a really good idea...but I dont remember seeing it mentioned in the SYE install write-ups that i read....so i was just asking. TY.

Done!

Finished up this morning. I took some time to sand and paint the skidplate mount points since there was some rust under there.

All that is left is to check angles, adjust, and put on the CV rear trackbar bracket.

Sears lock & snap ring pliers: Just get the biggest ones they have.

The RTV states that it is "OEM quality" so I spent the extra buck. Although, on all the components that had RTV from the factory, there was VERY LITTLE on there.

NOTE: Pay REAL CLOSE attention to the oil pump's pickup tube when putting the case back together!

I also put the 39 tooth speedo gear in since I am moving to 4.56's from my current 3.73's (33" BFG MT KM's) next week. Woo Hoo!

Post SYE Install PROBLEM (CV Bracket)

OK. I am mad and REALLY TIRED...

I got the shock relocators from Desert Rat.

It took ALL DAY to swap out my old Teraflex rear trackbar bracket for the RE CV angled bracket. The stock rear track bar was really hard to install and it looks "Tweaked" at the bushings. They are twisted - it looks like the angled CV bracket is too severe of an angle for the stock trackbar.

I had to bring the pinion WAY up past in-line with the drive shaft in order to get the trackbar bolts to line up.

I then lowered it back to even with the DS and adjusted the passenger side upper control arm to that spot. I left the driver's side upper control arm bolt off.

I tightened up the trackbar and then tried to install the drivers side upper control arm bolt and low and behold it needed to be adjusted out farther than the passenger side. There are about 8 threads showing with the passenger side only having 6 to 7.

I am freaked out about twisting my D44 to pieces....

I am going to post this problem in a new thread in hopes of getting some help...

Going to take a shower and relax...

So awesome information and diagrams Chuck! But I am dense or just a bit ocd...
To review... I bought something from Sears called Retaining Ring Pliers...which based on your diagrams look like it deals with both internal and external "snap rings" by pushing a couple of levers on the tool.(Sears calls what u picture as for snap rings, "Retaining Ring Pliers")
What Sears calls Lock ring Pliers is what exactly what you pictured last and is what I would expect...Does that sound right to u?

I guess snap rings and lock rings are all called "retaining rings". They just take different tools to install/remove them. Snap rings (both internal and external) are obvious by the little holes the tips of the pliers fit into. Lock rings have no holes, they are just spread by pliers with flat tips that fit into the gap opening in the ring.

Ninner,
Yes, I need to measure the rear UCA's and see how far off they are. And the rear trackbar looks really uncomfortable in the RE mount. I am trying to get a hold of a buddy who has the bracket on a Rubicon and I want to see if his looks so crapped out.

The SYE is perfect.
