Registered User | Way too organized! lol Other than having good snap ring pliers like stated above, it is pretty straight forward. __________________ Word up. Black Jeep Club V2.0 Member #40 |

Registered User Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Chandler, Arizona Posts: 211 | Update Update: 4:30 PM. Gotcha #3: The front output yoke doesn't just "slide off." Now I will need to see if AutoZone has some sort of puller that will get it off. Tried "lightly" tapping it with a rubber mallet but no-go. Answer to Blue-Ultra RTV: I was going to use it for the case... Is that bad? Answer to Snap Ring and Lock Ring Pliers: Yes, I purchased the LARGEST of both that Sears sells. The main snap and lock rings came off very easily. Answer to "How did you preorder your driveshaft" : Offroad Toy Store had me take a measurement from the back of the harmonic ballancer to the center of the rear diff U-joint. It was 18 1/8". They sent me a 15 1/2" (fully compressed) DS. Based on what I have read most of the lengths after the SYE install with a RE 3.5" SF lift the distance between the ujoints is 16 - 17". We will see when I am done.... Unless I figure something out to get the front yoke off it's off to AutoZone Here is where I am at: ttp://www.team-lan.com/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/TJ_SYE_Install_04.JPG Note: The rust looking pump and T-case is NOT rust. It's the reflection from my lightbulb shop light ![]() http://www.team-lan.com/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/TJ_SYE_Install_02.JPG Other than the front Yoke it's going pretty smoothly. NOTE: There was VERY little RTV on the small rear case. Last edited by Overdrive : 03-09-2007 at 05:47 PM. |

It came right off with a few turns. 5:30 PM Progress: Pic of old & new: http://www.team-lan.com/Coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/TJ_SYE_Install_06.JPG Half way there ! |

Registered User | Great pics, brings back memories of a few months back when I did mine. The hardest part for me was putting back on the cover and keeping the oil pump secure. Good luck for the rest of the way! |

Registered User Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Council Bluffs, IA Posts: 240 | yeah for the AA short shaft fixed yoke kit , on page 9 on the lower left corner of the page it says that some np231 transfer cases require the shift rail to be trimmed because i protrudes out of the transfer case into the tail housing. if it sticks out more than 1 inch, you are supposed to trim it with a hacksaw or cutting wheel. Just curious if anyone took the time to read and then measure it to see if it was necessary on their install. I am planning to do mine tomorrow and i am just going over the install paper work and getting all the tools ready to go. |
