The TC mount itself usually lasts for a while and only costs 50 bucks to replace. You can replace the TC mount with out dropping the TC also. You just have to support the Tranny and TC and drop the skid.

You DON"T have to drop the TC to replace a Ujoint. Really you shouldn't have to drop the TC for any regular maintenance. If you are upgrading or rebuilding the TC you should drop it but you don’t have to if you are just replacing fluids and Ujoints.
Gravity and the weight of the engine, transmission, and transfer case keep that mount planted. I'm not saying you're wrong but I've done plenty of driving with none of the nuts in place. The only time you would ever know the difference is if you flopped.

I am not going to say you are wrong either. I just replaced my mount and notice a difference. The old mount had worn out pretty bad and I could feel and hear the TC shift under load. Usually it was from a dead stop or a tight turn. I noticed it alot wheeling but 90% of the time it didn't shift and I had no complaints. This could be the low end torque of first and second gear of my manual trans. I never noticed it in any other gear but I don't wheel or take tight turns in any other gear either. Could just be that I have an old Heep; I mean Jeep.

So you have a good chance of not having problems but if you notice a drivline shake that is not caused by driveline stress you might think about the mount.

Of course you do. Those nuts hold the mount to the skid. If you're removing the skid, you need to support the bellhousing, remove the 4 nuts, then remove the 6 bolts holding the skid up.

Sorry. You should if working on the tranny. I mixed it up when the one person posted about dropping the skid plate.

if the nut stripped like that you had the wrong size socket now the easy way to get it off would get a pair of vice grips, clamp them on the nut as hard as you can and turn until the stud snaps, it really dont take that much force to snap the tranny mount stud. then just run the other 3 when you put it back together
