Did you round of the shoulders of the nut that's under the skid?

Drill it all right out. You'll still have 3 out of 4 nuts. Those nuts aren't critical to holding your jeep together or anything.

That's an interesting response to my question but it doesn't help identify the true problem. A "stripped" nut has had the threads damaged and may require a different approach to the repair than a nut that's been rounded off.

hammer the **** out of a slightly smaller socket onto it and then you will be able to grip it. Maybe some sort of small pipe wrench? I have used both of these 2 with success before.

FYI i only run 3 of 4 nuts on my tranny mount.

I actually know of a guy how tack welded a really big nut over the smaller one to get it off. Not sure what size it was but do to the location it had to be big. Doe that make sense? It was a big O with a little o inside once it was welded. He couldn't stack them and weld because the welder tip wouldn't fit any way but straight up.

Hope that made sense and helped.

You should feel lucky. I tried dropping the transfer case skid last week and two of the bolts snapped right off. I'm down to two bolts remaining. I was affraid to try the other two, since the first two snapped so easily. Those four that hang off the skid just hold the tranny mount, right??

Heat, PB blast, then one of the suggestions above.

If and when you get it off, put never seize on the threads before re-installing.

Those four bolts on the bottom of the skid plate keep the TC on the skid plate by holding down the TC mount. If you break more than two you will start to feel the TC shake the driveline when starting from a dead stop or when taking turns. I had to replace mine last weekend. The TC mount itself usually lasts for a while and only costs 50 bucks to replace. You can replace the TC mount with out dropping the TC also. You just have to support the Tranny and TC and drop the skid.

You DON"T have to drop the TC to replace a Ujoint. Really you shouldn't have to drop the TC for any regular maintenance. If you are upgrading or rebuilding the TC you should drop it but you don’t have to if you are just replacing fluids and Ujoints.
