Stock TJ Upgrades
Ok so I just bought my first Jeep. Its a 04 TJ. Everything is stock on it. I want to lift and put some bigger tires first then move on to some other stuff. What would be some good starter parts?

Well if you are working off a 3-4k budget you will have a pretty good amount of possibilities. You need to start by figuring out what you are using the rig for. Will it be a street queen, trail only rig, daily driver with some weekend offroading? I would suggest hanging around on the forum for a while and you will start to get a feel for things really quickly. Also, make good use of the search function as you will be able to find out loads of information on just about anythign you can think of.

After reading up about different brand lifts and tires you may want to start with a smaller lift about 2-3" and some tires 31-33". Also if youre going to go offroading armor is a 1st. Look into the different skid plates, rockers, maybe some new bumpers if youd like. Also you may want to regear your axle depending on what you have now but if you get 33" tires you should get 4.10 gears.
P.S. go to your account and edit your profile and fill it with info about your jeep, if youre unsure of stock secifications heres a thread with the info: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/stock-tj-specifications-452871/ |

I'm currently 1.5 years into my ownership and getting ready to do my lift and tires this month. Feel free to search my posts. I've asked a ton of newbie questions.
So far I have: Bought and installed a soft top Exchanged wheels Installed new radio unit Installed new speakers Removed jugs Added blinker guards Loved every minute of it. ![]() Last edited by BloodThirsty; 02-03-2009 at 09:14 PM.. |

I agree small lift, body lift, Motor mount lift, armor the crap out of it then see if you want bigger tires and lockers, fill out your profile some more, so we know what axles, motor, transmission, and gears you have. Also get bumpers with recovery points.
